Arai SAI Pinlock Insert 4.2 5 16 16
As good as it gets Once you start using visors with pinlock, there is no way back. I am glad Arai incorporated this tecnology. July 13, 2015
Good vis day n night Mine bound a hair and I had to round file the pin recesses a couple mm to get the silicone seal to seat surely. After that it is nice . (In a bind it had convex deformation leading to no contact between silicone bead and face shield, just at the pin on both pins) I feel that this problem should be fixed though because it's useless otherwise and of course this is a specialty file size and delicate work not to mention I'm sure it would be difficult to return once it had been modified. I highly value this piece of equipment now. March 23, 2015
Great product, Great price. No more foggy face shield. Also I bought the tinted one which works very well under the sun. And some times when I need to come back late in the dark, I can still see very well at night. December 1, 2014
Very good quality, fit perfect, excellent shipping time The product fit very good on Arai face shield for corsair v, the quality is very good and forget fogg!! September 15, 2014
It's ok The Dark smoke insert isn't all that dark. Don't even bother with the light smoke one May 19, 2014
This product has great features This product is easy to install and use. Great way to avoid the fogging of your shield! May 9, 2014
Day-time Cold Weather Anti-Fog-Yes. Nite Clarity-ABSOLUTELY NO Bought a new Signet Q helmet with Pinlock Lens (clear). The helmet is terrific (fit, long-term comfort, noise level, style, features) and I'd recommend it highly. Bravo Arai. The lens - I need a DIFFERENT solution. During daylight hours, the clear lens with Pinlock insert is flawless and certainly addresses the "anti-fog" question for cold weather riding. Perfect. THEN, I went for a night ride. WOW. If you like riding while looking through a kaleidoscope, great. I need a replacement for the pin-lock lens ASAP. If you're in an urban area with lots of street and ambient lighting, the Pinlock lens insert is downright DISTRACTING and on the verge of DANGEROUS. I've pulled the insert and cleaned it to make certain this isn't a problem related to poor install and it hasn't helped. Disappointed for sure after spending big $$$ on the helmet. Hoping I can find a better lens solution because I love the helmet. February 15, 2014
It works. So I wanted to try this out. I purchased a yellow and a smoke pinlock with the hope that they would do exactly what I needed it to do. As far as fogging goes, they work great. The problem I had with them is that they don't go over the entire faceshield, so there is still plenty of room for the sunlight to get in. Another issue is that they seem to distort my vision when looking through them. If I lived in an area where my shield was constantly fogging up, then I would probably still ride with it. It does work for that aspect. November 4, 2013

Richard G: I commute year round in western Oregon. Got tired of fogging and did some research on the advise of a friend about pinlock. I would highly recommend. 36 degrees raining and no fog. SOLD ! Aug 21, 2015
Nicholas S: I wanted some smoked lenses for my bike. Jul 28, 2015
Tracey F: still undecided if i like it May 17, 2015
Tony S: I'm hoping its as dark as my current helmet. "Dark smoke: seems to vary based on the make. I love that it can be easily changed out. thumbs up to Arai and Revzilla! May 5, 2015
William A: I've tried many types of fog free sprays and devices. I ride year round in cold temps and have never found a product that works so well and for so long. My last Pinlock insert lasted more than 2 years and 25000 miles and now steams up just at my mouth. Jan 3, 2015

A shopper asked: Does the shield or the pinlock block ultraviolet rays? I'm considering a yellow or light smoke pinlock but do not want to introduce tint without UV protection. Sep 15, 2013

Bill B: I have used both of them for a year or so each. The light smoke insert was purchased after I had issues with the yellow tinted shield's glare on bright days. The light smoke is just about perfect. Night riding has to be considered for either insert the light smoke is a better choice if you ride much at night. The UV protection was not considered when purchasing these. They both are top of the line and totally eliminated the fog on shield at the same time they provided the shielding from the bright sunlight. These are the best inserts offered. Sep 15, 2013

Ron Y: That is a very good question. I would like to know the answer myself. All I can tell you is that the pinlock, when it is working, will certainly keep the visor from fogging up in the rain. However, the last pinlock I bought for my Arai helmet did not fit correctly and it fogged up like crazy. I finally had to take it out. That was not the case at all with the original pinlock that came with the helmet. Sep 15, 2013

Edwin W: Yes has UV Protection. Keep in mind if you have UV color tint changing glasses or sun glasses they won't work very well. you may want to consider the ProtecTINT version. Then you will not have to worry about swapping from a clear insert to a light smoke or smoked insert. Sep 15, 2013

DON M: According to Arai, the shield and the pinlocks do have some UV protection. Sep 18, 2013

Laura S: According to the manufacturer's website, it provides 100% UV protection. Sep 15, 2013

Grant W asked: Anyone have any experience with using the yellow insert at night? I've used clear pinlock inserts before but I just can't deal with the glare at night, I was wondering if the yellow tint might cut down or eliminate that problem altogether. Dec 2, 2014

A shopper asked: Clear and both light and dark smoke tints are self-explanatory, but, trying to figure out what riding conditions you would use the yellow or amber tint inserts. Thanks. Jul 16, 2012

RevZilla: The difference between Yellow and Amber tints is a closely guarded secret that only an elite few people know. Your best bet would be to make a pilgrimage to Tibet and seek out a monk who lives in a pagoda high atop a mountain peak in the Himalayas. Before revealing the secret, however, he will ask you to test your commitment and dedication by sending you on a quest to find an extraordinarily rare flower that only grows on the east side of the mountain. Only then will it be revealed that both tints increase visual clarity during the day in low-light, overcast, or rainy conditions but the amber tint is better in the fog. Well, I guess you don't have to make the trip now. But the monk would also teach you a deadly martial art so you can fight crime like a spandex-clad vigilante super hero, so that would totally be worth it. Jul 17, 2012

GabeSportBikeTrackTime: Yellow can be used for anything, really. But I've only seen/used yellow tint at night.

It's great for night because the yellow tint brightens things up and makes your eyes definitely feel like there on "high-alert". It makes your eyes feel quicker and wakes you up a bit haha!

As for amber tint, I have no idea.

A shopper asked: I keep the pin lock insert installed on my shield year-round. I find that after 3-4 months the silicon seal isn't as tight allowing air to escape and moisture to gather on the inside of the shield. Does the silicon seal need to "rest"? Dec 14, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: In my experience with Pinlock, the system works like a charm up until the point where the shield gets too scratched to see through.

The silicone seal helps to keep water and moisture out from between the layers, however, the real technology is the interior layer (or lens) which actually absorbs moisture instead of allowing it to materialize as fog.

If you have issues with the seal, just unseat the pinlock lens and clean the shield. Then re-apply, hopefully without issue. The only caution I would give you is that constant changing of the pinlock lens will break down the silicone seal and allow moisture to eventually creep in-between and form on the shield. If is better to change the pinlock lens once a season as needed.
