No more fogging up with the pinlock shield Never fog up again. Great quality from Arai. Expensive but you get what you paid for. January 30, 2013
The pinlock product is a good feature, but there are too many options and styles that make identifying and selecting difficult I like the idea of a flexible shield change system, and have always loved the fit, and performance of my Arai helmets. The pinlock seems to live up to its claim of being fog-free (which is a significant benefit for racers competing in the rain. April 17, 2012
Totally Fog Free The SAI Pinlock design works great. I've had it for 4 months now and no fogging at all - even as the seasons changed. I started with the clear insert and liked the performance so much I ordered additional inserts for sunny and cloudy days. January 10, 2012
Wide side view, great airflow, and quiet! Needed a new face shield and wanted a tinted one, but was afraid to get one that's too dark for night riding home in the city after work. I didn't want to have to change out face shields. Got the PinLock face shield with the removable light smoke insert...AWESOME! I was originally planning on just taking the insert out for night riding after work, but turns out that the light smoke is dark enough for daytime rides and light enough for night riding in the city (tons of street lights/lamps). Best part...NO FOGGING UP!!! Riding in cold weather now and without the PinLock shield I'd be riding half as much due to the fogging on my other shield. Bottom line: great price, easy install, light smoke good for day/night, and NO FOG!!! December 19, 2011
Works as advertised Bought this for my new RX-Q. The anti-fog works well, still get a good amount of fogging around perimeter of lens. Installs easily, vents ok. My big complaint about this lens is the visual clarity. Looking thru this lens is disappointing at best. Produces a good amount of light glare from oncoming headlights and the visual trueness is not very good. Comparing this to my Nolan N-102 Pin lock and the Arai lens is sub-par, the Nolan is nearly invisible where the Arai is like looking thru a fish bowl. The anti-fog function works, but visual clarity is not there. December 15, 2011
Great solution to fog buildup in the visor This is hands down, the most excellent product when it comes to preventing fog buildup in the visor of Arai helmets. I had a dark smoke that I used during sunny days that shielded my eyes from the light but I needed one for the evening as well as I do most of my riding when the sun goes down. The amber visor insert solved my problem of those stock Arai visors that tend to easily fog up and cause vision/sight problems and could lead to potential disaster when you're riding on the street or the track. The only issue I have with these is that they are quite expensive for a piece of plastic and after constant switching between visor inserts, they might chip or break at the ends, one of my biggest worries. But all in all, its something you will definitely NEED if you purchase an Arai because those OEM shields fog worse than a pair of glasses in a steamy sauna. September 30, 2011
This is a great way to block sun glare Easy to install and does an excellent job blocking the sun. September 26, 2011

I keep the pin lock insert installed on my shield year-round. I find that after 3-4 months the silicon seal isn't as tight allowing air to escape and moisture to gather on the inside of the shield. Does the silicon seal need to "rest"?

Answer:
In my experience with Pinlock, the system works like a charm up until the point where the shield gets too scratched to see through.

The silicone seal helps to keep water and moisture out from between the layers, however, the real technology is the interior layer (or lens) which actually absorbs moisture instead of allowing it to materialize as fog.

If you have issues with the seal, just unseat the pinlock lens and clean the shield. Then re-apply, hopefully without issue. The only caution I would give you is that constant changing of the pinlock lens will break down the silicone seal and allow moisture to eventually creep in-between and form on the shield. If is better to change the pinlock lens once a season as needed.

Clear and both light and dark smoke tints are self-explanatory, but, trying to figure out what riding conditions you would use the yellow or amber tint inserts. Thanks.

Answer:
The difference between Yellow and Amber tints is a closely guarded secret that only an elite few people know. Your best bet would be to make a pilgrimage to Tibet and seek out a monk who lives in a pagoda high atop a mountain peak in the Himalayas. Before revealing the secret, however, he will ask you to test your commitment and dedication by sending you on a quest to find an extraordinarily rare flower that only grows on the east side of the mountain. Only then will it be revealed that both tints increase visual clarity during the day in low-light, overcast, or rainy conditions but the amber tint is better in the fog. Well, I guess you don't have to make the trip now. But the monk would also teach you a deadly martial art so you can fight crime like a spandex-clad vigilante super hero, so that would totally be worth it.

Answer:
Yellow can be used for anything, really. But I've only seen/used yellow tint at night.

It's great for night because the yellow tint brightens things up and makes your eyes definitely feel like there on "high-alert". It makes your eyes feel quicker and wakes you up a bit haha!

As for amber tint, I have no idea.
