Arai RX-Q with SAI face shield in Dark Smoke
The Arai RX-Q is my first Arai, as well as high end helmet. I can't comment on any long term items because I've only had the helmet for two weeks. At first everything was a little stiff right out of the box, but since then the helmet feels like it fits better and better each day. The size chart seems to be a little off. My head is measured to be a medium, but after i talked to the great customer reps at Revzilla, I ended up ordering a large. This helmet is the lightest helmet I've ever felt, which is an amazing plus. Removal of the padding can be done in 2 minutes easily to make cleaning quick and painless. This especially good for hotter climates, or for people who sweat more than usual. The face shield system can be a little meticulous at first, but after a few times I've gotten used to it. The wider periphery is a nice change from other helmets. While looking straight ahead, you can bearly see the little breath guard and chin guard, and you cannot see the sides. For me, this makes head checks alot easier, not to mention the safety aspect of it.
One thing that i will mention about this specific graphic, the Talon, is that you might be a little surprised about it. If you look at the product photo, you will notice white dots that almost look like a glare from a flash. This is what i was led to believe. In reality, the black on the helmet actually looks like you're looking into space, having small white dots to resemble stars in the distance(that you can't really see in the product phot# and the large white dots resembling larger, closer stars. Also, the finish on the paint, as well as the awesome bit of sparkle#sounds a little lame, but it looks great), is absolutely amazing.
My biggest pro about this helmet is the ventilation. One of the first rides I took with it was a cooler morning for Florida. I started with all the vents open, including the brow vents. I ended up closing the vents because my head started to get cold. I can't wait to use this helmet in the summer!
My only con about this helmet is the fact that Arai does not make an anti-fog shield. I'm greatly ok with this though, because I understand why. I've gone through my share of companies claiming to have an anti-fog shield, but it ends up failing in less than a year. For this, i plan on purchasing a pin-lock system.
Overall, I think this could be the absolute best street helmet on the market.

Great fitting helmet. You can feel the quality as soon as you put it on. The adjustable interior of this helmet is a great advantage. I have a average size round face and this helmet in a medium fits perfect with a little cheek pad adjustment. You definetly get what you pay for in this case.

This was my first top helmet. I always heard about the quality of Arai, and finally could buy one. This helmet is pretty comfortable and has a great paint job. Ventilation works exceptionally and I can feel wind going through my hair. The only problem is that the shield fogs up easily. Revzilla have a great service and do a, excellent work.

If you are used to buying cheap, you will be amazed at what a few hundred dollars more will get you. The quality disparity is unbelievable; Arai is by far the highest quality helmet out there. I have a round oval head and went one size up, it fit perfectly. Watch the video on youtube to learn to remove and install the face shield. Revzilla is my new go-to place for motorcycle gear, the service was great/the price was unbeatable.

This is the best helmet I have owned in many years. Probably the best I ever had so far! There is unbelievable ventilation even on a bike that has a big windscreen there is airflow through the vents. The fit is just right. I would recommend trying an Arai to anyone I know who is looking for a new helmet. The wide view is amazing. I can see to my left and right like I have not been able to do in the past. Thanks Arai for building such a good product.

The RX-Q does indeed have space for helmet speakers. I have the Sena bluetooth SMH-10 communications in my old helmet that will transfer to my new RX-Q. I checked out the spacing on a friend's RX-Q before I bought my helmet.

The helmet shown is actually an Arai Vector 2 with Deco graphic. The Arai logo on the rear of the helmet is much smaller on the RX-Q. When we receive updated pictures, we will change this on the website. Good catch!

How would you compare the RQ-Q to the Shoei Qwest? I am leaning towards the Qwest because I want the quietest helmet I can find! Also I am an XS size...and Arai doesn't make that shell specific size do they? My riding style is mostly sport-touring/ weekend trips on my ninja 400r.

I believe you mean the Arai RX-Q. I can't comment on the Shoei Quest but, I can tell you that Arai goes to great lenghts to fit their helmets very well and while not specific to XS, I wear a small and the XS shell is the same for the two sizes. So it is a small shell size with no "lolipop" styling. Just a word on noise since you mention about wanting a quiet helmet. No helmet will be super quiet unless perhaps the Shuberth C3 modular but, it comes with a big price. Noise levels will always be a compromise of a helmet that vents well and has sufficient padding and construction to minimize air entering the helmet (especially under the chin bar). I have a Arai RQ-Q helmet (and an older Shoei RX-700)... I also recently bought a pair of Sena SMH-10 Bluetooth Headsets and they fit great!
The clamp on the side easily will fit the Arai helmet and pretty much any other helmet you can think of. There is a slight 1-2mm gap at the top of the headset where the helmet starts to curve in but that doesn't affect wind resistance, noise, or anything else. Attaching the earbuds inside of the Arai helmet required the supplied sticky velcro pads that came with the Sena because the material the helmet is made from doesn't work that good with velcro. The Shoei material worked fine with velco and I could attach the headphones anywhere without a stickypad.

I have seen the Sena mounted both ways on the RX-Q without any issues. I don't think it matter too much, so whatever looks/feels better to you should be fine.

Hi, I am currently using a Scorpion EXO 1000 on my BMW K1200S. At higher speeds (and medium) I find it very noisy. I have been looking at AGV's GP-Tech, Arai's Q and also Schubert. I am wearing fitted earplugs but they start hurting after a few hours of riding. What would you recommend? Thanks, Hans.

Hans, If you ride a K1200S then you ride in a more tucked position, right? Like a sport bike style of riding? The RX-Q is a great helmet and is very quiet when the vents are not open, but there is something you should consider here...the RX-Q is designed for an upright riding position, aka touring position. The vent is located further back on the top of the helmet and won't be of much use to you in a tucked position. The Schubert is the same style...for touring. Look for helmets designed for your type of riding, where the vents are forward.
As for ear plugs. I stopped wearing the expensive fitted plugs for the same reason you site. Instead, I use a an ear plug made of natural fibers and bees wax (yes, bees wax) which easily molds to the shape of my ears, and I can wear them for 10 hours without any problem with discomfort at all.
