Arai RX-Q Oriental Helmet 4.9 5 295 295
Great Helmet, versatile, excellent internal airflow and external aerodynamics. High Quality and Highly Recommended. Quality: Arai helmets are of very good or excellent quality. Fit: I bought the RX-Q model to fit my Intermediate Oval to Long Oval Head Shape. I tried the Signet Q but it was a just a tiny bit too long for me. Airflow: The Airflow features are excellent and manageable. Top of helmet flow, face shield flow and around the mouth/chin level can be opened or closed. Rear of helmet outflow can be open or closed. Rear outflow open enhances overall flow over the top of the head. Padding: Interior padding is snug and fit well for me. There are different padding sizes if you need it. I have not experienced any discomfort from the padding or the strap. Fogging: The helmet has not fogged internally while riding except one time when we had 100% humidity and I was riding through the clouds on a rainy, cloudy, 100% humidity afternoon on the BlueRidge Parkway. Face shield choices: There are a variety of face shield choices from clear to dark smoke and grey, amber, blue and purple mirror shields as well. I ride with the light smoke face shield during the day and carry a clear shield in my hard bags in case I am riding after dark. I find the light smoke fully adequate to dampen the effect of bright sun though others may prefer different colors. This may be more of a preference point. The clear is for night or for cloudy grey days. Switching the face shield is very easy. The Revzilla video instruction is great. Watch that once and it is quick and easy to change shields thereafter. Face Shield Field of View or Visibility. Visibility side to side and top to bottom is excellent. This is appreciated when in a full crouch position in the fast and tight twisty corners. Wind Buffet/Aerodynamics. Riding behind a touring wind shield there is no buffet even when your head is up in the wind. Behind a sport windshield the air hits your body and the helmet unless in a tight tuck. The helmet is very aerodynamic and when your head is in normal straight ahead or cornering position, the helmet feels very smooth in the air. I only feel the pressure of the air on the helmet when changing lanes at high speed on a freeway and looking hard left or right to check for cars. Value: I find the Value is good +, but it is tough to give a higher end helmet a 5 on the bang for the buck score. Overall: I think Arai makes an excellent product and I highly recommend the line. The RX-Q and Signet Q line seem ideal for the Sport, Sport Tourer to Tourer rider and works well in a traditional sport crouch position. I like the versatility of the helmet. I ride both a 2007 Honda VFR 800 and a 2009 Harley Davidson Road King. Two very different rides, but both very fun in there own way. October 13, 2014
Arai RX-Q Got this helmet for my wife after getting Arai's Signet-Q for myself. Both have been excellent purchases and a huge improvement over previous helmets, particularly in terms of comfort over multiple 8-10 hour days on the road. The RX-Q has excellent ventilation, and the smaller overall shell size (for the same helmet size) and light weight mean less fatigue at the end of a long day battling head and cross winds. Overall, very glad to have selected this helmet. The hi-viz color is a big plus, too. September 29, 2014
protection, viability, comfortable, light weight and style important in choosing a perfect helmet for me. I love this helmet that I have chosen. I call it perfect. I love that the visibility with the helmet on is like not having a helmet on but you are protected and comfortable all at the same time. There will always be a better one, one day but right now this is perfect. September 9, 2014
Fantastic Helmet This is my first helmet and I chose well. I got the Blue Diamond Large sized helmet and it fits my head perfectly. There are no pressure points and I did not have to adjust any cheek pads on the inside. It is very lightweight and the features seem very well thought out and executed. The protection is typical Arai, top of the line. The viewing angle is excellent - much wider on the periphery than any other brand I have tried. I highly recommend this helmet. September 9, 2014
Great piece of gear This helmet sets the benchmark for me. I live in Florida and the weather is pretty hot and/or humid most of the year.I wanted a helmet that vents efficently and doesn't create any weird forces on my neck when doing blind spot checks at speed. It fits me perfectly but i wouldn't trust the manufacturer's sizing chart or get all caught up in head shape definitions. Use your head (pun intended). In other helmets i wear a medium and according to the Arai charts i should as well, when i got a medium there was just a little too much give. Trust in the excellent customer service for brand insights and free returns if needed but above all try moving the helmet when wearing it, IMHO that's the best method to know it fits you. Visibility is great as with any Arai and the helmet is quiet enough for me at all speeds. It will fool you into thinking it's lighter than it actually is when wearing it. I won'even try to describe the graphics; it has been described by people in the know as possibly the most visually stunning helmet ever made by Arai yet i'm sure some guys are going to second guess sporting a helmet that has some pink accents on it. To that i've got only four things to say: 1- If you worry that much about what people say about you, you've got bigger problems. 2- If it makes you happy get it and man up to your choice. 3- Notice next time you're at a bike hang out; you won't see 5 of these on other people's heads or bikes, it's exotic looking. 4- Most important of all is that motorist will probably only see the highest point on your bike, to maximize your appearance it's better to be reflective and catchy. I don't ride my Ducati in the rain so i can't intelligently speak about rain induced fog in the visor or about the combination of pinlock pocket and silicon seal remedies some other have needed with the brand. Overall a solid helmet, one of the safest rated (DOT and SNELL 2010) albeit a little on the pricey side, but for the admission price you get the whole package fit, drudi performance design w/ excellent finish, quality and above all world class protection. I highly recommend the RX-Q September 8, 2014
11,000 Mile Experiment. Bought this helmet for two reasons. First, to have the best protection and comfort. Second, the styling and paint. After riding for more than 11,000 miles with this helmet on, overall I am pleased. It is a bit pricey, but performs well. Tends to be a little noisy around the pucks, and the face shield removal is a bit quirky. Very resistant to buffeting when head is turned at speed. Good control of air flow. Peripheral vision is superb. High quality. My head is worth it. September 5, 2014
My First Arai This first Arai, I have always been a Shoei guy, this is my first Arai. The quality and feature is great, it is more comfortable than my Shoei, and I guess it is about how my head fits. I had to purchase a separate pinlock face shield, since unlike Shoei, it doesn't come with one. The face shield locking mechanism is not great, I consider that a poor design. Shoei got it right on that. Over all it is a good product, but at that price, I think it should be perfect in all areas. September 2, 2014
I love this thing After not having ridden for 40 years I don't have a lot of helmets with which to make comparisons, but I love this thing. I opted for an Arai RX-Q black DNA to complement the red '12 Triumph Speed Triple I now ride. ...an excellent choice. Some years ago I when to watch a race at Barber in Alabama and an Arai rep was there and fitted me with the helmet shape that is now the RX-Q. But that was a few years ago. I used a tape measure to measure my head size and then bought the recommended size for my measurement (large). When I got it, it was so difficult to put on that I thought I had made a terrible mistake. It was so tight it was almost painful when I did get it on. However; I did remove the 5mm from the cheek pads in accordance with the instructions and that helped....a little. I've been wearing it (7,400 miles on the bike since mid March) and this thing fits like a glove right now. It's had time to mold to the exact size and features of my head and it just couldn't fit any better. It's comfortably snug and no amount of wind, no position of my head in the wind, causes it to wobble or shift. There is no buffeting at all...even when I'm looking left and right at the country side. It does have significantly more wind noise than I thought it would, or should, have....but then, I have nothing to compare it to. I had been advised to wear ear plugs and that turned out to be excellent advice. Wearing the simple, squeezable, earplugs in this helmet makes the bike much more comfortable to ride. I love this helmet. Great style, great protection, no buffeting. I highly recommend the RX-Q. August 24, 2014

PDXgearhoarder: It all depends on how thick and rigid or thin and malleable your temples are and what material they're made of. My ancient steel Raybans I can still manage to squeeze into the helmet. My Oakley Oil Rig and Gascan, forget about it. Like driving a railroad spike into my skull. Good god though, the helmet is gorgeous. Oct 4, 2012
