I finally got around to spending a little more money on a nice helmet and was not disappointed by the Arai. They are more expensive but the discounts and zillabucks helped to lower that cost to a manageable price. The design and feel of the helmet are exceptional and Arai is the best in the business for a reason. The paint on my RX-Q Talon is not done justice by the internet pictures. There are many fine details you just cant pick up without having this baby in your hands. The price tag is a little bit high but your noggin is worth it. Revzilla had my helmet here in 2 days with free shipping and a great price. Never had any issues with these guys and I love my new helmet.

Upgraded from an old Arai Quantum helmet that was much to old to still be using. Nice fit with great ventilation and the Mamola color scheme is a close match to my red/silver/black RC-51.

My previous helmet was an HJC CL-16 and I decided to upgrade because the visor latching system was a piece of junk.
Let me just say I could not believe the difference in the liner comfort. This helmet is like wearing a pillow, I could sleep in it. The venting is superb, all it takes is the slightest breeze to get air flowing.
My only complaint is changing visors is somewhat of a hassle compared to the HJC.

Bought the RX-Q after reviewing many. My helmets have been a 3/4 with flip shield and fixed liner and a full carbon fiber half helmet. Have ridden a maxi-scooter and a large cruiser. Just got a Goldwing, so now you have a little info to judge my opinions. I have always gotten an XL. My size from the Arai chart fell between L and XL. I went for the XL since I like to wear a balaclava under the helmet in the winter. Tried it on as delivered. Couldn't close my lips for about 20 minutes from the cheekpad pressure. It did get better. Pressure around the head ("protecting your head not your face") was very snug, but didn't feel hot or painful. Pulled the cheekpads and removed the top layer of soft foam. This helped quite a bit. Installed a headset/microphone set. The pocket for the ears is incorporated into the cheekpads so this is where the speakers have to go. The microphone is velcroed on the panel in front of my mouth off to the left. I didn't want to cut into this panel since I believe it has air ducts etc for the mouth scoop. This micro is larger than some higherend products and ends up touching my lip. One ride of about 60 miles was not painful, the sound was good and I learned to ignore the thing touching my lip. Noise level was less than my half helmet (duh) in relation to wind, but engine/tranny noises were more noticeable, probably since the wind was reduced. I could tell when I opened the vents on top. Seemed on the verge of fogging when stopped, but I did not use the feature that lets you crack open the edge of the shield and still hold it down. The shield seemed good when locked open at speeds up to 40 (my wife wanted my face protected from insects), but this was on a Goldwing so it is hard to say how good it would be on an unfaired bike.
My wife used the retractable chin deflector which helped, but does not cover as much as some add-on styles I have seen. Field of vision is very good. This is one area I was very hesitant about since a half helmet like I had been wearing (and will continue to use for the daily commute) has no vision issues at all.
If I had it to do over, I may have opted for the Signet-Q from Arai which is a bit longer front to back and can be ordered with communication equipment installed by the electronics company.

I am very happy with my Arai purchase. This my first personal helmet so I can't really comment on comparisons to other brands except for the Shoei Quest that I wore during my motorcycle training. The Shoei may have been mislabeled a medium because it fit way too tight.
I was fortunate to get my Arai at closeout pricing which made it well worth the pricing, IMHO. My head size is between the small and medium according to the sizing chart. I originally made the mistake of ordering the medium first. It fit just a tad too large and I didn't feel comfortable keeping it. Revzilla has a terrific exchange policy so I was able to return it for a small. I was a little apprehensive at first, fearing the small would be too small. Once I received the small, all my apprehensions were put to rest. It fits snug and is not too tight. After wearing it for more than a week it is even more comfortable.
My only complaints about the helmet is that the shield will occasionally fog up and I'll need to crack it open to let it clear up when at a stop.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Answer:
The RX-Q is a top of the line street helmet that is designed for a more upright riding position while the RX-7 and the new Corsair V are better suited to track and aggressive street riding. The only thing the Arai RX-Q and the RX-7 have in common is their internal shapes (although the RX-7 is a little rounder), besides that similarity they are totally different. Both the Corsair V and the RX-Q vent very well and have greater outward visibility compared to RX-7.

Answer:
The RX-Q comes with a certain type of cheekpads for each size that you would buy. Unfortunately, you can't order one with anything other than "stock" cheekpads.

The good news is that the stock RX-Q cheekpads come with a 5mm peel-off layer. Just take out the cheekpads and remove the cover, and you will see this layer available to remove. This simulates going one size down in cheekpad.

Answer:
To directly answer your question, I don't know. I know they can be ordered as an accessory.

Mine came with the standard cheek pads. However, the stock pads are easily made thinner by removing different thicknesses of foam from them. The cheed pads are made so that this is an easy adjustment. The first thing I did was disassemble the helmet. I believe the first section of foam that can be removed is 5 mm thick.

For what it's worth, I initially thought my pads might be too tight. I left them as delivered. Don't know if I just got use to them or what, but almost 2000 miles later, they are still stock.

Great helmet, but I will be buying pinlock shield with insert to handle fogging in this cold weather riding.

The picture you provide for pre-order of the Deco is different than the picture Arai has on their website. Yours looks to have a giant Arai logo in the back, theirs does not. Do you know what will be produced?

The helmet shown is actually an Arai Vector 2 with Deco graphic. The Arai logo on the rear of the helmet is much smaller on the RX-Q. When we receive updated pictures, we will change this on the website. Good catch!

Hi there,

How would you compare the RQ-Q to the Shoei Qwest? I am leaning towards the Qwest because I want the quietest helmet I can find! Also I am an XS size...and Arai doesn't make that shell specific size do they? My riding style is mostly sport-touring/ weekend trips on my ninja 400r.

Thanks!

Answer:
You really can't go wrong with either helmet. They are both great brands with plenty of features that should satisfy any needs you have. As far as noise goes they should be pretty similar (I have the RX-Q but have not tried out the Qwest). I switched to the RX-Q from an HJC CL-15 and the noise level was significantly decreased. And Arai does indeed offer an XS size, so no worries there! Hope this helps

Answer:
I believe you mean the Arai RX-Q. I can't comment on the Shoei Quest but, I can tell you that Arai goes to great lenghts to fit their helmets very well and while not specific to XS, I wear a small and the XS shell is the same for the two sizes. So it is a small shell size with no "lolipop" styling. Just a word on noise since you mention about wanting a quiet helmet. No helmet will be super quiet unless perhaps the Shuberth C3 modular but, it comes with a big price. Noise levels will always be a compromise of a helmet that vents well and has sufficient padding and construction to minimize air entering the helmet (especially under the chin bar). While I may have not exactly answered your question, I hope I was able to help. Both helmets are quality products and good luck with your choice.

Does the RX-Q have void space that is for speakers of communication head-sets? How well do the speakers for the Cardo G4 Powerset ( http://www.revzilla.com/product/cardo-g4-powerset ) fit into the RX-Q helmet?

Answer:
The RX-Q does indeed have space for helmet speakers. I have the Sena bluetooth SMH-10 communications in my old helmet that will transfer to my new RX-Q. I checked out the spacing on a friend's RX-Q before I bought my helmet.

Some of the pictures of the RX-Q helmets show them with the pin-lock shield and some do not. Does the RX-Q come with the pin-lock shield on it already, or is it separate?

Answer:
The RX-Q comes with a standard shield. To upgrade to the pinlock system, you would have to purchase both the Pinlock shield and the Pinlock lens.

The Signet-Q comes with a Max Vision Pinlock Shield and Lens.

Answer:
The finish of the Arai RX-Q DNA helmet is gloss black. The finish is more akin to the Arai "diamond" finish you find on the RX-Q Solid helmet in Diamond Black.

Answer:
Hi Kahlil,

The finish on the RX-Q is gloss and the finish is flawless. The colors have a micro metallic fleck in them, which is very subtle and is perfectly done.
