Arai Corsair V Edwards Replica Helmet

The new Corsair V proves again that Arai’s main focus is the experienced rider who knows what a real helmet should do and have. It doesn’t fling fashion at you; it advanced the art of building better helmets for riders. Its improvements and innovations reach down to the smallest details. Why? Partly obsession. Partly because Arai believes every part of a helmet is interrelated in both design and function. We don’t believe in change for the sake of change, fad, or marketing “shock” value.

Features:

  • Newly designed shell with Hyper-Ridge around the bottom enhances shell strength while providing a larger bottom opening
  • Larger bottom opening promotes ease of putting on and taking off the helmet
  • Peripheral belting across the forehead area of the shell enhances structural integrity while maintaining flexibility, low weight and shell size
  • Larger upper vent tabs make operating the vents easier even with thick winter gloves
  • New Arai “SAI” shield with Super AdSis shield system
  • New “SAI” shield is 5mm longer in each side and provides a wider field of view
  • New “SAI” shield and base plates are exclusive to Corsair V helmets
  • Latest generation of Dry Cool line has a new silver-grey color
  • Rear mounting straps are slightly re-positioned exclusively to the Corsair V
  • Neckroll is removable and has additional exhaust channels to remove interior heat
  • Cheek pads have the exclusive Emergency Release Tab feature
  • Newly designed side exhaust cowls exhaust heat as well as add lateral stability at speed
  • Enhanced air inlets of the new DF-9 diffuser increase airflow efficiency
  • Brow vents now duct air into the temple area and out the side vents for maximum cooling
  • Exclusive AirWing provides unprecedented aerodynamic performance with 5 distinct positions
  • Snell M2010 Certified

My previous helmet was from ICON and size LRG. After reading the Arai size chart and taking measurements I discovered that I should be wearing a size MED. I bought the Arai Corsair V in MED. The fit is perfect and I can assure that my next helmet will be from Arai.
I was the guy that bought top quality parts for my bike but not top quality gear. Be smart and buy the best gear you can afford.

I finally decided to buy the Corsair V and am not disappointed.
First off pictures do not do this helmet justice. The graphics and subtleties of the paint are much nicer in person.
The fit is perfect for me and it is easy to put on a pair of sunglasses unlike some of my other helmets.
Arai put a lot of attention to the small details on every component on this helmet.
Next it was off to give it a test ride. It's colder at this time of year here (45F/7C) and the shield fogged much faster than any of my other helmets. Fortunately the shield lock is easy to use with gloves on and so I just lifted up the shield when stopped. After 10 minutes or so the temperature stabilizes and the shield stops fogging.
As soon as I got on the main road in front of my house I was reaching up to close the vents. This helmet flows a lot of air, much more than any helmet I've used. Even when I wasn't in the tuck position air flowed freely. I was skeptical about the temple vents in the shield but they work very well.
All the vents are very easy to use with gloves on and are simple and intuitive.
The visibility is excellent both with peripheral vision and forward when tucked. I immediately felt more confident in traffic and at extreme angle intersections due to the peripheral visibility.
The helmet cut through the air very well and was comfortable even on a long ride. It feels much lighter than what the scale may imply. It was also was surprisingly quiet for a race style helmet.
I just used my TeamZilla cash to get a Pinlock shield and insert which should take care of the shield fogging. I watched Anthony's demonstration video so I changed the shield very quickly with no problems.
Overall, this is an expensive helmet but well worth it. It's by far the best helmet I have.

This was purchased as a track helmet only. Long story short, new bike, new tires, new track...crashed the bike hitting my head HARD. Helmet did what it is designed to do, saved my head, but sacrificed itself in the process.
I just purchased another one because I believe that if I would have gone with a lesser quality one, I may not be here typing this.

I am sort of a helmet "abuser" When I go to the weekly HA (Helmets Anonymous) meeting I stand up and say: "My name is Nicholas and I have too many helmets" I have an AGV GP Tech, A Shoei 1100 and a Shoei 1200. This Arai looks, feels and fits better than any of the other three. One thing about it though, when you buy the top end of any product you have to pay a whole lot more to get the last 5% of performance than you have to pay for the first 95%. But OH BABY does that last 5% feel good!! This helmet was worth every penny of the extra $300 that it cost over an absolutely drop dead wonderful helmet like the AGV and the Shoei. If Rolex made a helmet it would feel like an Arai. Better yet if Mercedes made a helmet this would be it.

I've always had Shoei's but decided to shop for an Arai as I needed a new Helmet. After much research and reading, I opted for the Corsair V. Ithought that the new Shoeis look really ugly and the Arai's were more appealing initially. The closeout deal at Revzilla also helped me decide to spend $650 instead of the typical $850 with this Aoyama replica. I have to say that in real life the helmet looks much better than on the pictures. The colors are much more vibrant and the quality and details of this helmet are just incredible. The other surprise is how light the helmet feels compared to my old RF1000. Also, I always thought my Shoeis were very comfortable. Even if the Corsair V is race oriented, it feels very comfortable and I have no problem going on long trips. I read somewhere people saying that if a Shoei fits you then an Arai won't and the other way around... For me I have had no problem with both brands... But now I can tell you how much I love my ARAI!

right off the bat i'm going to need a dark smoke shield. this is a $800+ helmet, whats the deal with the shields? like most helmets it ships with a clear shield, but then you are selling dual panes, inserts, tear offs (i know these are for racing), pinlock inserts...the list goes on.

I'm a Bell Star guy, they make things fairly simple. If I am to get into the Arai game, can someone please explain to me what I need to be equipped with a dark smoke shield for sunny street riding conditions. Thanks.

Answer:
In order to be equipped with a dark smoke shield you will have to buy said shield separately as Arai helmets only come with a clear shield
If you want/need NO FOG AT ALL you will need a Pinlock visor - whatever brand of helmet you choose.
They are entirely worth the money! But that is a different issue ...

Whichever your brand of helmet just make sure it fits properly, otherwise you have wasted your money

Answer:
The graphics on the Arai Corsair V Aoyama are red with orange insets/accents.Toward the bottom of the helmet the gradient goes from black to red. Just above the visor line there are burnt orange stripes that separate the red from the inset orange (red outlines). As the orange moves toward the front of the helmet it blends to back to red. On top, on the vent channels, the red blends to a dark red (again as an inset) then back to the bright red. All through the colors it has a fine metal flake so it sparkles in the light. Overall I say it's red (and I went to art school and worked as an illustrator) but you have to see it - pictures don't do the paint job justice. It's really awesome and has a lot of subtle blends and details.

How does the sizing of the Arai Corsair V compare to an Icon Alliance helmet?

I have an Icon Alliance helmet in XS -- it fits tight but well and comfortable. I am looking to upgrade to an Arai Corsair V. Looking at the sizing chart, seems that I should order a size S in the Corsair V, but typically S is too big for me. Does the Corsair V run small and I should order it in S or does it fit more like the Icon Alliance (and I should therefore stick with an XS)?

Answer:
I'm not familiar with the Icon but used the size chart and the RevZilla video to determine the size of my Corsair V and it was dead on. The Arai website has a lot of sizing information too (http://www.araiamericas.com/). My advice is to get a cloth measuring tape, measure your head like the video shows, and then go with the chart. Head shape is a factor but Arai recommends changing the comfort pads if the regular ones feel too tight or loose. Give RevZilla a call if you are still not sure.

Answer:
Hi Thomas,
Icon and Arai have similar dimensions for their XS sized helmets; both accommodate 20.875” to 21.25”. The Arai Corsair V tends to have a slightly round shape, as opposed to the Alliance which is more neutral. The benefit is the Corsair may provide you more room side to side. Where does you Alliance feel snug?

Answer:
The short answer is: Definitely.

This helmet does not limit your riding posture, or put you in a disadvantage when not riding tucked.

Imagine a normal helmet, with the visor extended up about an inch. It gives you flexibility, but does not limit you. The features are optimized for the tucked position or a race oriented driver without sacrificing anything for the average joe.

Answer:
It can be. But it's made for the tuck, and way better in the tuck. If you want this helmet and ride more not tucked then tucked I suggest the RX-Q. Basically the corsair modified for street use/not full tuck.

Answer:
Not quite. With some rubbing alcohol and a bit of elbow grease you can get it to come off, but they install them very well so it takes a bit of work.
