AltRider Yamaha Super Tenere XT1200Z Crash Bars

Now that you’re the proud owner of a Yamaha Super Tenere XT1200Z, you want crash bars to protect it. AltRider's are built from one inch stainless steel so they’ll never rust, and feature beautiful hand TIG welds.

In designing these crash bars, AltRider went through the trouble of maintaining the hidden connector in the front to yield a seamless system. Why is that important? It means the energy of a hard impact on one side can be transferred throughout the bars and to the other side. The three mounts on one side don’t have to take an entire impact load; instead, it is distributed across six mount mounts so none of them are overwhelmed. All of this is important because the crash bars will not only protect the fairing in the case of a crash, but also the Super Tenere’s exposed radiator.

We also conducted a thorough study to identify the bike’s contact points when on its side. This led to a crash bar design that offers a wide contact area between the crash bars and the ground. The other contact points will be the handlebar bar ends, and rear passenger peg – protecting the fairing, engine, radiator, and brake and shifter lever.  

Additionally, AltRider ensured the glove box side panel will have plenty of clearance to be easily removed while bars are still installed.

Expensive, but well built Overall the part looks well made, the welds are flawless. The powdercoat was chipped on one unit I recieved, but they exchanged it for me no problem. I have yet to crash with them installed so no comment for "crash-ability" yet. Installation is a bit tricky but if you are patient it should only take an hour to install. I also noticed there are no torque suggestions for the main bolts into the engine block. As an engineer this concerned me because the bolts are large and the engine block is aluminum. The instructions simply say "thighten all the way down". Thats a little too ambiguous and asking for someone to strip out those threads. I used 45 ft-lbs with thread locker. I would not suggest more than that. April 8, 2013
A great product from AltRider! After much research, I chose the AtlRider crash bars for my new Super Tenere. After I received the bars from RevZilla, I was sure I made the right choice. These are a very stout bar and should do well to protect my bike. Thankfully, I've not had to try this out yet. The welding and the general fit and finish of the bars is very good. The installation went fairly smooth but is easier with two people. I would definitely recommend the AltRider crash bars no matter what type of bike you ride. March 25, 2013

Solid crash bars I have not had to test them out yet but they feel very sturdy. A little tough to get on solo but doable. Following the install instructions and watching Altrider's video helped. Getting the last side bolt in required quite a bit of pulling to get the hole lined up even with all other bolts still loose. Right side access panel still comes off with bars installed. Strongest bars available! Instillation went well until I tried to fit the smaller bolts into the sides of the bars. Here's a tip: Save one of the long bolts from the plastic OEM guards and use it to draw the crash bars into the mounting bracket. Then use the smaller bolt (provided with the bars) and insert it in the second hole. The long bold not only draws the two parts together, it aligns the holes. Do the same for the right side. Makes it a snap and probably saves your marriage if the wife helps. November 2, 2012
Look/feel Sturdy - Installation on the other hand... I have been comparing these with the Givi, and decided on the Altrider. Though I have not had a chance to actually "test" their durability, they have great welds, and are joined together solidly. Ease of install...well...I had every bolt loose, and one side still did not line up well. It took some few choice words and ten hail mary's, but they did go on. Lock tight on everything and I hope i do not have to take them off. October 15, 2012
