Best crash bars out there These are definitely not the cheapest crash bars available, and it took me some time to decide on these. But ultimately, these bars have the highest quality. Now that I have them I will order the skid plate. June 2, 2014
crash bars and skid plate Revzilla got them to me quickly and with free shipping -- I like that. I bought this particular setup -- 1] because the crashbars are stainlees and because of how they fit to the frame. 2] I wanted a skidplate that did not bolt to the engine and that I did not have to remove to change the oil. The parts are beautifully made and finished. I am a blacksmith and I appreciate nice metal work, this stuff is Nice. Everything fit up well and bolted together. Now to pick the fly stuff out of the pepper -- so to speak. There was no Locktite in either kit. They said there would be. = trip to the hardware store. If they refer to a bolt size, it is bolt they give you not what is already on the bike. First step to install the skidplate is to remove the 2 bolts holding the side stand on. Glad my daughter was home to hold the bike. Also, Suzuki uses some sort of Godzilla thread lock on these bolts = deadblow hammer and combination wrench. Holy cow! I didn't think that thing was ever going to come loose. The rear bolt on the right of the skid plate takes some serious contorting and cussing to get started. Those are all my whines. All put together it looks great and sturdy. Well thought out by whoever engineered the setup. Install of the crashbars is easy enough for about anyone. The skidplate -- you are going to need some skills. Seems like it all took an hour or so. A lot of which was cussing the side stand bolts out. May 12, 2014

Easy Install, Looks Great These crash bars are more expensive than the competitor's products, but after shopping around and looking a the amount of protection provided, I went with these. Installation instructions were easy to follow and start to finish it took all of 15 minutes. Look great on the bike and no noticeable change in performance or noise. October 23, 2013
altrider crash bars Fortunately I haven't needed to put them to the test. But if I had to there would be no doubt they would step up to the plate. I purchased the skud plate too. Ditto there also. So quality and function, excellent rating. Regarding looks they made my vstrom a much better looking machine. They were a little more involved putting them on than the video suggested. In fact it took a mehanic over an hour to assemble on my bike. Quality materials. Good looks. And peace of mind keeping that exposed oil filter safe. I believe both additions were necessary. Great product Overall I was very pleased with the quality of the product, the only deficit I encountered were the lack of powder coating on the several areas which while not seen unless you look for them surprised me, it appeared the coating overall was not consistently applied to the product. Installation instructions were FANTASTIC I wish all companies wrote them that well. I had it installed in no time and am very pleased with the design and fit, the only issue was the powder-coat was very inconsistent across the piece (thick in some places, thin in others and missing in a couple spots). The bars are made out of stainless steel so it is not an issue for corrosion etc just the only flaw in an otherwise excellently designed product. June 17, 2013
Great Crash Bars The installation was very easy and the bars look great when done. All the parts and connections went exactly as the directions specified. I have a Suzuki DL650 so i selected the black version of the bars. Today I tested the bars by dropping the bike on a gravel road; everything worked out well, I picked up the bike and kept going. Great Crashbar. Perfect fit. I bought this a little over a month ago along with the matching Altrider skidplate for my 2012 Suzuki Vstrom 650. I replaced the "Adventure" crashbar that came with the bike. This Altrider crashbar fit perfectly and mates with the frame mounts for a very secure, strong fit. The two halves went together easily at the center. Installation took all of 15 minutes and instructions were good. Altrider skidplate mated perfectly. Stainless steel construction means no rust even when I do scratch the black powdercoat finish which was also perfectly done. No complaints of regrets. Buy it. You'll love it. August 7, 2012

R. Brian S: I'm sorry that I can't answer this but I have the bars and they are top notch. The cross bar is in a very similar location to the stock bar I took off of my '12 Adventure. I will say that I highly recommend that you consider the Altrider bash plate to go with these instead of the OEM cowl. The cowl does little to protect the bottom of the engine. The Altrider bash plate is burly, looks good, integrates beautifully and actually protects. Oh, and it's easy to change the oil w/out removing the bash plate too. The Altrider product is first class and the fit was perfect. Sep 19, 2013

Bruce B: I don't think so. The mounting points are the same as the lower fairing (as it appears), and you could not mount the crash bar under the fairing without some conflict, and mounting over the fairing would not work with the machined spacers designed to fit inside the frame recesses.

Check with AltRider directly to be sure, but my opinion is that the crash bar protection is not going to work with the lower fairing farkle.

Bill B: The bars and the skid plate work together and are attached to each other. The lower bars on the bars attach to skid plate. It is more work than the video states. Mine were attached in 90 minutes. I cannot answer your question regarding the oem lower fairing. My. "12" is stock other than the crash bars, aluminum paniers with brackets and modulating head light. David M: That is a good question, while this is not a definitive answer if the fairings cover any of the installation points then no, otherwise you have to measure the depth of the fairing from the frame. If you post up those numbers then would be more like to be able to provide an answer for clearance. Sep 19, 2013
