AltRider Luggage Rack for Triumph Tiger 800

The AltRider Luggage Rack for the Triumph Tiger 800/XC is a must-have part, whether you ride on or off. Manufactured in the USA from 3/16 inch (4.75mm) thick anodized aluminum, it incorporates side flanges for extra strength and rigidity. The strategic cut-outs provide places to lash down your load with anything from straps to bungee cords to tie downs. AltRider ensured that every hole allows any hook to pass completely through the luggage rack for a secure attachment. All cut-outs feature a premium CNC routered edge to provide a smooth and a clean finish.

If you are interested in using a top case, the AltRider Luggage Rack interfaces with the Givi Monokey System, allowing attachment with a mount kit – no need for the additional cost of an adapter plate. The AltRider Givi Monokey Luggage Rack Topcase Mounting Kit is sold separately and allows Givi Monokey topcases to mount to the rack. The rack also provides an interface with the Rotopax Pack system, so you can easily bring extra gas, water, emergency supplies, or even tools.

Already have the Triumph OEM soft tail bag? No problem, the AltRider luggage rack provides cut-outs that make attachment easy, and scoot the placement further back so there’s room for a pillion.

Fitment Notes & Exceptions

  • The OEM Triumph plastic tail cover's bolt openings are very tight to the threaded bosses on the grab handle. This potentially makes installation difficult as well as making cross threading possible. AltRider suggests loosening the grab handles and OEM luggage rack to shift left or right if necessary, align the holes with the luggage rack, then tighten the metal piece and the luggage rack.

Very well made, good alternative to euro
This was a bear to install, getting the bolts to line up w/out cross threading the grab bars was maddening. I'm a fairly skilled DIY guy with the right tools.,after several hours of frustration I finally figured out the trick. In addition to enlarging outboard side of holes in the stock plastic cover I took the forward grab handle bolts loose so the threaded holes in the back could be rotated horizontally slightly. That made a lot of difference in aligning every thing. After I had the rack bolts down most of the way I re-installed the grab handle bolts,,and tightened everything up.
Mounted my Givi topcase and it looks great.

Had to tweak to get it to fit...
I had read a review or two from others, complaining that they had to wallow out the holes to get it to fit on their bike. This was true with mine as well. For the price, I expect more from a US manufacturer!
Once fitted though, the rack works and looks great!!

Lacking but not in quality
The main reason I purchased was to strap a triumph Top soft bag to it on my tiger 800xc. The advertising specifically states that it works well with the triumph soft bag top case. Due to the positioning of the straps and plastic clips on the bottom of the bag it is just right to be wrong. I emailed the manufacturer for suggestions and they told me that they hadn't done any testing with that setup. Everything else about it is excellent just doesn't work well with the truimph soft bag top case.

A few issues, but can be solved
Ok, this is not a perfect product but it's darn close!

So, I chose this over the other brand due to a few reasons:
1) I did not have to drill anything, instead, I would just remove the OEM plasticky cover and attach the rack directly to the bike
2) It looked more solid plus it had the "bent side wings" that would allow me to strap stuff even if I had the top case on

A few things I noticed straight away:
1) this is one heavy piece of kit for an aluminum plate, but it's rock-solid
2) the finish and the laser cuts are seriously impressive
3) the flippin' instructions are WRONG!

Let me explain that last bit: the instructions tell you to prepare tools A, B and C for an easy-breezy instalment. WRONG. The M bolts weren't the ones listed on the instructions (this happened with other AltRider kit too), but no biggie, but still WRONG. It does not tell you to install the adapter kit (if using one) prior to attaching the rack to the plate, although this is a no-brainer.

But most importantly: it doesn't tell you that the bolts "might" not line up correctly to the mointing points (this is an exact fit accessory for christ's sake!) and that you might have to loosen up several other screws and bolts from your bike just to get it right.

Ok, so maybe I'm a n0o.b or just a silly newbie with a big bike, and although I was never in a rut, it took me a bit to figure it out, thinking I had maybe purchased the wrong "exact fit" rack (was this the 2013 or the 2014? darn it!)

So, after the panicky second or two, I figured out that if I removed the pilion seat I could loosen up both pilion handle bars (or whatever they are called) and re-tighten them after I got the rack in place. A bit tricky, but a secure fit.

The other problem I encountered is that the spacers are too "spacey". I was hoping this would sit just a tad above where the plasticky OEM plate was. Not a chance, it's well over 2 inches above, leaving a few bits (bolts, wires, etc) explosed underneath. But it turned out to be a much appreciated space in order to re-tighten those other nuts and bolts you just loosened enough to get the rack in place. Design flaw or done on purpose? I reckon you couldn't attach the rack without the spacers or with some smaller ones. This is something you do not see in the product photos.

Altogether, an impressive piece of kit and one that will sit on my bike for years on end.

Bomb Proof!!!
I have this on the back of a Triumph Tiger 800xc. I have used a 46L GIVI Trekker, and 1.75g RotoPax both worked flawlessly. It looks like it was meant to be on the bike. It has plenty of locations to strap something down if not using a hard case and Its super strong. I actually think that I could pick the bike off the ground using only the rack. Highly recommended!!!

Very Strong
it took a while to show up (was on backorder), but I am Impressed with the strength of this thing. I went down offroad on a Tiger and half the weight of the bike end up with my top pelican case in the dirt, which I had bolted the the rack. Of course the case held up, and all that force went through the rack to the rear subframe. Rack took all the weight perfectly.

Large rack with plenty of tie down options
This is a great rack, it is very sturdy with a large area. I bolted a storm case to the rack using the predrilled holes for the Givi Monokey system and it is working very well. With the down turned sides I still have a place to hook straps to for additional luggage. I highly recommend this product.

Outstanding rack
Givi cases fit - all you need is kit. Good looking rack if no case. You WILL have to drill out at least one screw hole to get it on bike. (Triumph Tiger 800xc)

Just wondering if this works or fits the 2014 Triumph Tiger 800 (Road)? I was noting this was not on the dropdown list, but can't see why it would be any different.
A shopper on Apr 2, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You can varify by looking up and comparing part numbers on the plastic piece behind the pillian for fitment. It mounts using the 4 bolt locations on that piece. I think they are the same for both models.
The description lists the luggage rack size as 24" x 24"...is this really correct?
A shopper on May 5, 2012
BEST ANSWER: Thank you for pointing that out to us. The correct measurement is 14" x 14" x 3". The page has been corrected, thanks again.
