AltRider Luggage Rack Triumph Tiger 800 2011-2015
Need a bigger Tail Rack, Get the Altrider..
I've owned many pieces from Altrider. IMO, better quality and better prices than Touratech. Also made in the good ol' USA!
I like that all the cut-outs are smooth-edged so as not to cut into the bungies or whatever tie down method you use. It also has the holes pre-drilled for a Rotopax mount.
Installation was a breeze.
If I have do have one negative criticism its the weight. I get that you can't have it all, low price, low weight and durability. But this seems a bit on the heavy side.

A few issues, but can be solved
Ok, this is not a perfect product but it's darn close!
So, I chose this over the other brand due to a few reasons:
1) I did not have to drill anything, instead, I would just remove the OEM plasticky cover and attach the rack directly to the bike
2) It looked more solid plus it had the "bent side wings" that would allow me to strap stuff even if I had the top case on
A few things I noticed straight away:
1) this is one heavy piece of kit for an aluminum plate, but it's rock-solid
2) the finish and the laser cuts are seriously impressive
3) the flippin' instructions are WRONG!
Let me explain that last bit: the instructions tell you to prepare tools A, B and C for an easy-breezy instalment. WRONG. The M bolts weren't the ones listed on the instructions (this happened with other AltRider kit too), but no biggie, but still WRONG. It does not tell you to install the adapter kit (if using one) prior to attaching the rack to the plate, although this is a no-brainer.
But most importantly: it doesn't tell you that the bolts "might" not line up correctly to the mointing points (this is an exact fit accessory for christ's sake!) and that you might have to loosen up several other screws and bolts from your bike just to get it right.
Ok, so maybe I'm a n0o.b or just a silly newbie with a big bike, and although I was never in a rut, it took me a bit to figure it out, thinking I had maybe purchased the wrong "exact fit" rack (was this the 2013 or the 2014? darn it!)
So, after the panicky second or two, I figured out that if I removed the pilion seat I could loosen up both pilion handle bars (or whatever they are called) and re-tighten them after I got the rack in place. A bit tricky, but a secure fit.
The other problem I encountered is that the spacers are too "spacey". I was hoping this would sit just a tad above where the plasticky OEM plate was. Not a chance, it's well over 2 inches above, leaving a few bits (bolts, wires, etc) explosed underneath. But it turned out to be a much appreciated space in order to re-tighten those other nuts and bolts you just loosened enough to get the rack in place. Design flaw or done on purpose? I reckon you couldn't attach the rack without the spacers or with some smaller ones. This is something you do not see in the product photos.
Altogether, an impressive piece of kit and one that will sit on my bike for years on end.

Quality rack but....
Only problem I had is the OEM city tail bag will not fit on it. I haven't tried my bigger OEM Adventure bag yet to see if it works. I like using the city bag well...around town for gloves etc. I don't really want the big bag on it all of the time.

Very Solid Piece of Equipment
This AltRider luggage rack looks and fits like it was OEM. It was a snap to install - it uses the same mounting holes as the existing rack. It feels very sturdy and has a nicely finished matte black finish. Lots of slots mean you can tie down just about anything to it. It looks good on the bike, too. Highly recommended.

better then the GIVI
have a adventure bike, I wanted bags to represent that. Givi makes great bags, but there mount for the bag looks, well bad. the AltRider rack is made of heavy aluminium plate, not plastic. it will take a beating. with the addition to the Givi mount kit, you can turn the tumor into something that looks as strong as your bike

Lacking but not in quality
The main reason I purchased was to strap a triumph Top soft bag to it on my tiger 800xc. The advertising specifically states that it works well with the triumph soft bag top case. Due to the positioning of the straps and plastic clips on the bottom of the bag it is just right to be wrong. I emailed the manufacturer for suggestions and they told me that they hadn't done any testing with that setup. Everything else about it is excellent just doesn't work well with the truimph soft bag top case.

Excellent rack, looks cool
This rack lined up on my 2014 800 XC very well, no drilling or extra hassle as some others experienced. Quick install, and it looks way cool. The spacers lift the rack up high enough that you can run straps under the rack for fitting bags etc. The fit and finish are very nice. No experience yet with durability since I just installed it, but it feels beefy even though it's very light. Highly recommended!

it took a while to show up (was on backorder), but I am Impressed with the strength of this thing. I went down offroad on a Tiger and half the weight of the bike end up with my top pelican case in the dirt, which I had bolted the the rack. Of course the case held up, and all that force went through the rack to the rear subframe. Rack took all the weight perfectly.
