AltRider Crash Bars Yamaha Super Tenere XT1200Z

Now that you’re the proud owner of a Yamaha Super Tenere XT1200Z, you want crash bars to protect it. AltRider's are built from one inch stainless steel so they’ll never rust, and feature beautiful hand TIG welds.

In designing these crash bars, AltRider went through the trouble of maintaining the hidden connector in the front to yield a seamless system. Why is that important? It means the energy of a hard impact on one side can be transferred throughout the bars and to the other side. The three mounts on one side don’t have to take an entire impact load; instead, it is distributed across six mount mounts so none of them are overwhelmed. All of this is important because the crash bars will not only protect the fairing in the case of a crash, but also the Super Tenere’s exposed radiator.

AltRider also conducted a thorough study to identify the bike’s contact points when on its side. This led to a crash bar design that offers a wide contact area between the crash bars and the ground. The other contact points will be the handlebar bar ends, and rear passenger peg – protecting the fairing, engine, radiator, and brake and shifter lever.

Additionally, AltRider ensured the glove box side panel will have plenty of clearance to be easily removed while bars are still installed.

Expensive, but well built
Overall the part looks well made, the welds are flawless. The powdercoat was chipped on one unit I recieved, but they exchanged it for me no problem. I have yet to crash with them installed so no comment for "crash-ability" yet. Installation is a bit tricky but if you are patient it should only take an hour to install. I also noticed there are no torque suggestions for the main bolts into the engine block. As an engineer this concerned me because the bolts are large and the engine block is aluminum. The instructions simply say "thighten all the way down". Thats a little too ambiguous and asking for someone to strip out those threads. I used 45 ft-lbs with thread locker. I would not suggest more than that.

Great Protection and worth the $
This bar fit perfectly and was easy to install. Only took about an hour including reading the instructions. The finish is outstanding powder coating. I have the black bars. I think this is very strong and will definitely be worth the investment.

Great quality crashbar.
Fit and finish are outstanding. Welds are amazing. Very easy installation even by one person. Great protection and both side covers and be removed with the crashbars installed!

The bars are very unobtrusive when installed, they seem to 'melt' into the bike.

Excellent Protection for the Super Tenere!
I do not do a ton of off-road riding. I primarily purchased these as just piece of mind protection from an accidental drop or crash. I have accidently dropped my bike once (ugh). The front brake bit hard when i was turning around in a driveway and I tipped over. Minor scratch on the crash bars, bike itself, totally fine. I shudder to think what would've happened in this scenario with the chincy stock engine guards.

These are sturdy and solid mounted. Once they are bolted up they are going nowhere. The way they come together in the middle distributes the weight off the bike across the entire bar set up if it falls over. It has good protection on the right hand side for the radiator/fan, not perfect, but adequate. They are far enough off the bike to still allow the removal of the side panels. You will have to remove the bars to replace the stock battery on the Tenere if you need to.

These, in my opinion, are worth their weight in gold.

Excellent protection and Easy Installation
First I would like to say that the ordering and shipping was amazing. Ordered on Tuesday night and at my door Friday Morning + free shipping. Thanks for the great Service!!
I purchased these bars for my Yamaha Super Tenere. These crash bars are very strong and the design is excellent. The Altrider bars will definetly protect the upper sections for the bike where all the electrical and cooling systems are. They are a little pricey but the cost to replace the parts it protects is 3 times as much. It took all of 20 mins to install and the instruction were right on. I would recommend these to anyone who takes the high dollar Adventure bike offroad.

This product is the best that I have seen or found for the Yamaha super tenere
The finish on these crash bars is amazing. The welds are extremely clean along with the bends. I purchased a set of black crash bars after seeing my friends silver ones. The quality of both are excellent. The install is simple. However due to the quality of the part it may take a minute to figure out how ( which way ) to line up the bolt's with out a second set of hands. These bars look and seem to be able to take the abuse for a spill in the dirt or on pavement.

I haven't actually used these yet, but glad they're there.
These things are very impressive. Fit like a glove (two hints: leave those screws on the connecting bar REALLY loose until you have all the other bolts started, and don't try this alone - the tolerances are too tight, it will take forever, and you risk stripping threads). Even the fit on the radiator bracket is dead on. I like the idea they're stainless because I've seen used guards rusting where they get scraped up, and I really like the coverage on these.
The instructions don't make it clear at all, but yes, you can remove the side covers without having to remove the guards. I'm not sure how it'll be when it comes to valve adjustments, etc., but glad I can get the sides off.

After researching crash bars from quite a few manufacturers, these seemed to be the most sturdy. They had good reviews on the forums, nobody disliked them. They cost a bit more, but what good are crash bars that won't hold up in a crash?

Replacing a set that did their job beautifully. Really don't absolutely HAVE to change them, but the old ones got pretty beat up. Protected the bike perfectly. Protection money well spent.

Craig R on Sep 10, 2015
It appears to me that this crash bar offers the best chance of protecting side panels, engine case, and, most importantly, the radiator, of any that I researched without spending even more. Also, access for side panel removal is maintained. Hope it's not all hype.
Tom J on Aug 20, 2015
From everything I've read, and that is TONS, these are supposed to be hands down the absolute best crash bars that can be had. And of course, nothings too good for my baby - 2015 Candy Red Super Tenere!

Dropped my bike today. These crash bars saved me a lot of cash by doing what they were intended for. Bars are rashed, but the expensive plastics are fine. Great choice!

I have yet to drop this bike (of course now that I have installed the guards) but have seen another Super Ten equipped with this guard survive a brutal quick get off and the guard protected fan as it should. I'm not sure some of the other manufacturers would have faired as well, IMO.

Can the side panels (battery and radiator covers) be removed without removing the crash bars?
Tom S on Feb 6, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The battery/electronics side can come off. I usually cover the bars with a towel so I don't scratch the panel. The radiator side will need the bars taken off. But that side can be loosened enough to get to the tank bolts to flip up the tank for servicing the air filter, throttle bodies and spark plugs.
Would this crash bars work with OEM accessory engine guard?
A shopper on Jan 24, 2016
BEST ANSWER: This question should be answered by AltRider but if you have a Super Tenere as I do the OEM crash bars are removed and the AltRider crash bars fasten into the same bolt holes as the OEM as well as other places on the bike. AltRider has videos for installation for all of their products. I watched their crash bar installation video before I bought them and three or four times before installation.

If your motorcycle is other than a Super Tenere they will have a video for the bike you are buying for. I also have their bash plate and tank bag and all have a video for them. The instructions on paper that come with their products are plain and clear to read and understand with good pictures. I put the crash bars on myself but an extra pair of hands would have made it easier for alignment the rest of it is easy if you have the right tools. I think AltRider makes a great product.
Hi,

Do these crashbars work with Yamaha OEM skid plate ?

Thanks.
A S on Feb 23, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Yup! These bars are the best! The don't get in the way of anything and they look great!! The factory ones are actually more problematic than these. Don't like to admit it but Alt Rider crash bars work great too! Dropped the bike a couple times now and only the bars show the proof!
