The BMW K1600GTL is a beast of a bike that requires hefty support to stand up to its size. This beauty has been receiving glowing reviews and RevZilla is proud to carry AltRider's quality engine protection bars.
AltRider’s in-house design team took a careful analysis of the center of gravity and the ability to distribute the robust load on impact. In the case of an accidental tip-over, the cross bar distributes the load from one side to the other, relieving pressure from the existing mounting points to the other side of the bike. The connector bar adds significant strength to the design, effectively connecting into the threaded and blind boss on each side which provides 2 more locations for distributing impact.
The assembly for these engine protection bars is moved out 1.75” and up 2” from the original OEM design. Three reasons for this unique design change:
Compatible with 2013 and newer GTL integrated fairing lights
This design provides a higher resting angle when the bike is on its side, allowing a rider to pick the bike up after it falls on its side. Unlike boxer motors, the K1600 will lie almost flat making it difficult to even pick up the bike. The higher point of the bar will stop the bike from rolling over further, making it manageable for a single operator to upright the bike. This will minimize the damage to the upper fairings, windshield, mirrors, and handlebars.
The current OEM engine bars are placed very low on the frame and become a pivot point causing a falling bike to continue to topple over onto the upper fairings. AltRider's design halts this problem with the enlargement of the AltRider bars, preventing the bike from rolling over further in any crash or stationary drop.

Good overall product
Overall a good product and fairly easy installation. I had to grind a small amount off the end of the l/h bar so it would slide far enough into the r/h bar for the mounting holes to line up. Also had to slightly bend the original driving light mounts for the fairing lowers to fit back properly. Not a big problem. 2014 K1600GT with factory driving lights.

They went on as advertised, look good.
The instructions were clear and concise. They went on as advertised, no problems. It took about 1 1/2 hours to install. I would recommend them.

Great product, but pricy!
Well made and fit the bike perfectly. Better protection than the original equip bars for lights and body panels.

much better than OEM
Tested in rollover last week, Zero damage except paint/finish on bars itself. Easy to upright bike by myself. With stock protection bars, took several people to upright.

Easy to Install IF YOU READ THE INSTRUCTIONS
Other than the apperance, hopefully I will never have to test the bars. They do look like a stock item and very easy to install as long as you follow the direcctions. Great platform for extra lights and Hwy Pegs.

Harold G:The AltRider bars mount to the engine at four points. It is a very sturdy installation. I had to grind a small amount off the left hand bar for it to slide inside the right hand bar for the mounting holes to line up. No big deal. I also had to slightly tweak the driving light mounts for everything to line up. Again no big deal. My installation was on a 2014 K1600Gt with the fairing mounted factory driving lights. Overall I was very satisfied with the installation. Very sturdy and blends well with the bike. I bought the black bars.Feb 15, 2015
Arlyn E:The short answer is no. With the engine as a stressed member in the frame, the only places for the bars to mount is on the cast in lugs on the engine itself. The lugs appear to be quite heavy and would sustain a minor tip over.Feb 15, 2015
