The BMW K1600 GT/GTL is a beast of a bike that requires hefty support to stand up to its size. This beauty has been receiving glowing reviews, and RevZilla is proud to carry AltRider's quality engine protection bars.
AltRider’s in-house design team took a careful analysis of the center of gravity of the bike, and the ability to distribute the robust load on impact. In the case of an accidental tip-over, the cross bar distributes the load from one side to the other, relieving pressure from the existing mounting points to the other side of the bike. The connector bar adds significant strength to the design, effectively connecting into the threaded and blind boss on each side which provides 2 more locations for distributing impact.
The assembly for these engine protection bars is moved out 1.75” and up 2” from the original OEM design. Two reasons for this unique design change:
This design provides a higher resting angle when the bike is on its side, allowing a rider to pick the bike up after it falls on its side. Unlike boxer motors, the K1600 will lie almost flat, making it difficult to even pick up the bike. The higher point of the bar will stop the bike from rolling over further, making it manageable for a single operator to upright the bike. This will minimize the damage to the upper fairings, windshield, mirrors, and handlebars.
The current OEM engine bars are placed very low on the frame and become a pivot point causing a falling bike to continue to topple over onto the upper fairings. AltRider's design halts this problem with the enlargement of the AltRider bars, preventing the bike from rolling over further in any crash or stationary drop.

I chose this crash bar based on the good reviews and the need to have the added protection. The protection is mostly for those 0 mph tipovers. Unfortunately I've had those on past bikes. The installation was very easy. The instruction included with the bars were very complete and easy to follow. The finish on the bars is a mat surface and goes well with the finish on the K1600 engine. The bars have never caused any operation issues. If you are dragging these bars you're pushing this bike well beyond it's intended use. I hope I never have to test the strength and capability of the bars, but I feel much better knowing that they are there. I highly recommend these crash bars. K1600GTL

Just what I was looking for
Easy to install. Can't say how effective it is and hope I never do. Looks great. I will probable purchase hi way pegs soon.Side note:I dropped the bike in my trailer because of a faulty tie down. I attempted to lift it and threw my back out.dont know why BMW doesn't make this standard equipment.

A well made product.
These highway bars fit the bike perfectly and were easy to install. The satin SS finish matches my K1600 GTL finishes very well. I like the way the auxiliary lights bolt directly to the bars.

They installed very easily. The video was a lot better than the paper instructions. Everything went smoothly and they look awesome. They look like they were designed with, not for, the bike.

These crash bars look good and install easily. I especially like the mounts for the BMW running lights. Some may consider them pricey but they are actually less expensive than the other popular brands on the market. They will pay for themselves the first time the bike is dropped.

Took longer to get the four plastic parts of than it did to install the product. It looks really good and install instructions were easy to use.

WAYNE C J: Call it fate for my BMW K1600 GTL. I had the bars for one week and decided to practice small circles in front of the house. Unfortunately, too slow and too much tilt; bike dropped. No damage to fairing and because of the bar angle I was able to pick up easily (before anyone saw me). Surprisingly, there were no scratches to the bars. The bars saved me from thousands of dollars in damage. Fate was kind.Sep 24, 2013
