AltRider Crash Bars BMW F800GS
Rock the Crash Bar
Altrider makes top quality products, the finish is a very strong powder coat (Black) and fit is right on. I got the upper bar as well for full coverage of my plastics.Took all of 5 mins to install these. Get some locktite as it does not come in the packaging of this item.

I've dropped the bike a number of times on these bars in both dirt and rocks. They cover the engine perfectly and also do a great job of protecting the plastics due to their design. These are well enough designed I'm not sure that the upper crash bar is even necessary but I put it on as well.
Installation can be done by a single person but it goes a zillion times easier with a friend.

Good but tricky to install
The crash bars look good and the finish seems professional. I can't say I "tested" them (knocking wood) but they seem strong enough. The torque of the bolts hasn't changed after 1000 miles neither.
Word of caution: the T50 torx it needs for installation needs to be *very* *long*. I couldn't find anything in hardware shops nearby (and I live in a major city), so I had to order that piece in Amazon. We aware of this when buying, otherwise you'll have to wait some extra days for installation.
Also, something not included in the manual: the torque for the main upper bolt is 40NM, and the lower ones 19NM. You'll need a very good and L shaped torque wrench too.

Excellent, top-quality crash bars
I purchased these crash bars for my F800GS to replace the puny OEM BMW crash bars.
2 of my friends have the SW Motech bars, which are less expensive. What ultimately sold me on the AltRider bars:
- Aesthetics - they look great
- Protection - these bars come up fairly high and protect the upper plastics/radiator well
- Solid, stainless steel construction - the bars insert into the frame and use the existing engine mount bolts
- Install videos are excellent
- US-made is a bonus
Installation was cake - it took me 20 minutes. As for the color, I opted for the black, even though they make a gray that matches the 2012 triple black frame color. I felt like the gray would stand out more.

It fits great my F800GS 2013. Covers the engine and plastic and was easy to install. Hasn't need it yet but feels very strong. The bolts should be hex to match the rest of the cycle bolts but they are ok.

These fit on nicely, installation was quick and should protect well in the event of a tip over. The only negative was where the front bars came together, as the spacer would rattle and make an annoying sound. I ran a piece of electrical tape around the space and it stopped the rattle, problem solved. Great product, would recommend to others.

Okay so I have not dropped the bike so I can not rate them higher than good for now on performance , durability and bang for the buck.
Installed super easy, way to go ALT RIDER folks. Do as the instructions say and keep everything loose till you get all bolts in and no problem.
Socket length T50 wont fit in the BMW GS800 side hole. Get one before your bars show up...get a T handle one!!

Every bit as nice as I expected
I looked at 9 different crash bars for my F800GS, ranging in price from $160 to $470. At $376, these weren't the most expensive, but were close to it.
I was very tempted to get the cheapest, but there was something about the AltRider bars that really appealed to me. Aside from the use of stainless steel, I like the design of the mount points, and the way the joint between the left and right halves is practically invisible. I also like how simple yet effective the shape is, with a minimal amount of weld joints and bends.
My only disappointment was that the bolts provided for the lower mount points were not Torx-head bolts to match all of the other fasteners used by BMW on this bike. AltRider's web site (and most vendor's web sites) states that "Torx fasteners are provided for the bottom mounts." When I called AltRider about this issue, they said that non-stainless Torx fasteners were supplied in the past, but they later decided to provide stainless steel hex cap screws instead.
AltRider has yet to correct their web site regarding these fasteners, but RevZilla did so after I brought it to their attention.
I haven't had to "use" these crash bars yet, but I fully expect them to do their job. In the meantime, they are a perfect fit, both visually and physically.
