AltRider BMW R1200GS Oil Cooler Guard

The AltRider oil cooler cover tucks neatly inside the beak of the BMW R 1200 GS, providing protection for the critical and expensive oil cooler. The lightweight, louvered design allows maximum air flow while protecting against rocks, road debris and the occasional branch.

Pre-attached adhesive pads on the guard ensure that it installs in the most effective location, using predetermined places on the oil cooler. The beak of the R 1200 GS wasn’t made to carry weight or stress, so it’s essential to correctly install the cooler guard. That’s why we designed ours so it was nearly impossible to install it any other way.

Clean lines and an aggressive look give this oil cooler guard a distinct appeal that complements and protects your R 1200 GS.

It's a very nicely machined product, takes only a few minutes to install on my R1200GS Adv, and looks like it will easily protect the oil cooler. I got it in black to better match the bike. In black on my bike it's barely noticeable but complements the bike well.

Though I have not had anything big hit the guard to see how it works, it looks like a well designed unit so I am sure it will work fine.
The instructions were very clear and easy to follow.

I am sure the guard will provide good protection and the quality of part and finish is very good. The only thing that kept me from giving a "5" rating is the attchment. I would have liked to see the guard atached mechanicaly instead of 3m tape. If it were mounted with screws it would allow it to be removed for cleaning the oil cooler ... maybe in the next generation AltRider would consider the mounting.

The product fit was very good and came with detailed instructions. The instructions were written for a standard GS and my Adventure was slightly different but only in size of tools needed. It was still a very easy installation. The guard should provide excellent protection.
