Non-Frilly, Grippy, Durable, Comfy Gloves for Women. Yes!
I recently needed to replace a pair of summer gloves, and I wasn't looking forward to the task. I have wee hands, so finding gloves that don't make my fingers look something like those of the Grinch can be hard. It's also hard to manage a clutch when you have up to 1/2" of empty glove finger to contend with. As a result, my gear closet is littered with the bodies of discarded gloves I thought would work for me, but didn't. I put off shopping for a year, until a hole appeared on one of the fingers of the aforementioned summer gloves. I had some TeamZilla Cash, so I turned to RevZilla.

I scoured the pages and read reviews. While I normally go for gauntleted gloves, I was drawn to the Women's Alpinestars Stella SMX-2 Air Carbon Gloves. They looked good. Specifically, they are women's gear available in a color that isn't obnoxiously pink or pastel, nor does it have a rose on it. Even better, the reviews stated they are comfortable and durable and, well, everything I would expect from Alpinestars.

Due to my wee handedness, and numerous cautions that these gloves run small, I actually used the provided size table, and I'm glad I did. Seriously, use the size table. I'm not even joking. I usually wear a women's medium glove, and the gloves I ordered are a women's small.

The gloves arrived before they were expected, and I immediately tried them on. They were snug. Really snug. Since I knew my fingers would rarely, if ever, be straight while on the bike and wearing the gloves, I curved my hand to riding position. Not bad, but how much flexibility would I have with the throttle, brake, and clutch? Dare I wear the gloves outside and place them on the grips? RevZilla's return policy is, basically, "If you even look at your bike while wearing gear you ordered from us, you cannot return it." I carefully laid my hands on the grips and gripped. Then I squeezed the clutch and front brake. Success! My hands were comfortable.

I've been using the gloves for a couple of months, and they've stretched a bit, but not too much. They are extremely comfortable on the bike, but on very hot days getting them off takes a bit of effort. By "effort," I mean, "front teeth on finger tips and a slight tug." Disclaimer: I live in a concrete swamp. Our hot days include oppressive humidity that makes 94 degrees feel like a 107-degree wet sauna. In high heat/humidity and even in the rain, the leather dye has yet to run and discolor my hands.

One thing I noticed about the gloves was how well they grip the...um...grips. I have actually accidentally blipped the throttle a few times. This is not a slam on the gloves. It's an observation aimed at those who, like me, didn't realize they were maybe gripping too tightly. In the long run, I believe I actually have more control over the bike.

So, in a nutshell -- The gloves are great, and I totally recommend them. Just remember: Use the size chart. Better yet? Believe the size chart.

Good gloves for summer riding
I purchase these on 08/17/14 and received them on 08/22/14. I usually wear a size small in gloves but after reading the reviews I decided to order a medium. The gloves fit great except for the thumb. The thumb has about a 1/4 inch of extra length than I need. The gloves fit is great except for that. I will say that they are for riding on warm days only. They have great airflow which is awesome when its hot but not so much when its cold. I don't really ride when its cold so not a huge deal for me.

Love these gloves.
Love these gloves. I am on my second pair having crashed in my first. When I first got the gloves they were a little tight on fingertips but after a ride or two they loosened up. Extremely comfortable and fit my hands perfect. Held up extremely well in both accidents Ive been in. had a small tear in one glove on pinky in first and not a scratch in second one. Because of these gloves im converting to all alpinestar gear.

Great gloves, just too small
I tried on the same gloves in a store and took the picture of it to make sure I ordered the exact same ones. According to the store and the size chart I should have gotten a small, but I had to return them because they were clearly too small for my hand (across the knuckles, my hand is just under 3"). On the bright side, the return process is a breeze. Otherwise, they were really nice gloves. Can't wait until I get the right size and try them out.

Cute Gloves..
These are my first pair of motorcycle gloves so I'm not sure what to expect. I have ordered a size up because I heard AlpineStars run small, and they fit well. So make sure you order a size up!

Overall, they are very cute. They look like they're made well and I think they will last.

On the downside, I feel there is not a lot of wrist support. The only other thing I don't love is it hurts my pinkys when I bend them. I think my pinkys are longer than most so when I bend them, they hit off of the knuckle protector inside and it's pretty uncomfortable. I don't think I would wear these for longer rides.

After reading previous reviews, despite just squeaking in at the upper end of a SM size, I got the MD instead. Have only worn them three times so far. Once the gloves are ON they were quite comfortable, aside from the vent on the little fingers digging in (hopefully, wearing them in will flex the rubber/plastic so it stops murdering my throttle hand!) GETTING them on is a lot of wriggling though, so very glad I went up a size.

These are intermediate weather gloves i find; the mesh is not as ventilated as my other leather gloves, which have vents on every joint of the finger as well as the knuckles. The weather here at the moment is between 16 degrees celsius to 25 (60-80 for you yanks) at the moment, and I find it suits that well. Any hotter than about 30 degrees (85 farenheit) and I would swap over to my other gloves.

Will edit this once I have worn them in a bit more to see if the plastic vents stop digging in.

Good overall glove
I messed up my measurements somehow and based on other reviews I bought a size LG, which was way too big.
My measurements were actually closer to 3 inches, so I was a size Small based on the chart. I also went to a store to physically try them on, so for me size S fit fine, perhaps slightly snug.
I did not test ride these gloves.
I did not end up keeping it because I decided I wanted gauntlets instead of short cuff gloves. However, I did like the overall feel and features of the glove and would've kept it if it were gauntlet style.

Decent glove for the price
After quite the rigmarole of finding a women's glove that fits and isn't pink/purple I landed on the Stella SMX-2. Good glove, fits a little small which then leads to the pinky protector rubbing your finger a little bit - but they do seem like they'll stretch out after some use. (If the snow ever melts!) The palm protection is a little lacking, but knuckle and finger protection is great! Air flow is satisfactory.

This is my second pair
I bought my first pair of these gloves almost 2 years ago exactly. They have held up well and have more life to go but have been in the rain and are definitely worn and getting scratchy on the inside.

There was no question that for my summer glove I would buy another pair. The airflow is superb as is the protection on knuckle and palm. I noticed some features have been updated nicely such as fingertips to allow for easier phone use and the ribbing on the wrist. I think the fingers are slightly longer too.

My right hand is bigger so until it gets broken in, I do have to wiggle my hand in a bit but then the fit is fine around the wrist and overall. Love!

Bought this for my girlfriend. She wanted a pair of summer gloves with good feel to them. She likes them very much. They seem like adeqaute protection and she says they don't decrease her throttle or braking control. The thumb fit is a little large for her, but other fingers fit just fine.

I wear a size small in the men's version of this glove. I see the size charts for both gloves are the same, but, as these say they are designed specifically for women, I am wondering if they run smaller. What size should I buy?
Lara H on May 31, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The pair I ordered for my wife are true to size.
She has really small hands and the little finger on glove is way too long. The carbon fiber nuckle gaurd fits. Wish I could find a pair of women's with bridged little finger. Wifey won't ride with me much, fear, so this glove is fine for us.
Do order from Revzilla, their prices and return policy are the best out there!
