Crash report.
Unfortunately with all advanced gimmicks on this glove, they failed at the base of the construction, stitching.

Crashed with them while riding an obstacle course on a parking lot. Front tire washed out from under me, and I landed on my side at around 20mph. Unfortunately my hand got trapped under the handle bar and the glove took a lot of impact.

Middle finger ripped at the inner seam exposing skin, resulting in a deep gash to the bone.

After closer inspection what seems to happen, was that threads have literally cut through the leather at the stitching holes. Basically the panel that covers my knuckle was in contact with the asphalt and was tugged by it. The force was so great, that the threads cut through leather like knife through butter, opening up the seam and exposing my hand.

Leather is a bit frayed but stayed together, so that part held. But again, stitching did not.

Each crash is different, but this is my story. These gloves did not save my hand from getting hurt in a very minor crash.

Just a bit better.
I have a pair of the SP-2 gloves I love, but thought I would see if the SP-1 was just that much better..and it is. The extras: wrist strap, better venting, better flexability and generally better protection all go to make this just a bit better for the only slightly higher price. Size up as noted in the video and for a quick break- in, leather conditioner (cream type) the outside then apply to back and palm of hands, insert in gloves and wear for 1 hour making tight fists. These will be very comfortable gloves with excellent flex and control feel.

SP-1 review
Excellent fit, though it took getting used to wearing a heavier leather gloves over the less durable lower priced speed and strength gloves..only downside is not enough color options.

Great all around gloves
I am one of those people that is stuck between LG and X-LG sizes on gloves.
So these fit me perfect and there is just enough space for glove liners without them getting too tight.

Amazing glove
These Sp1 gloves are my very 1st gauntlet glove and I love them. I purchased them for the street/track. The design is awesome, fits great, and has tons of air flow. Only issues that I had was the carbon fiber knuckles, for the 1st few rides it's uncomfortable until the gloves really break in. With leather tho that's suppose to happen. Once again sick gloves you won't be disappointed.

Nice gloves
I was struggling between different models of gloves, tried ones from more cheap segment, but they was not comfortable, had almost no protection or just don't look like they would survive more than one season. Finally bought SP1, riding for a month with them already and really happy. They are light, made good, have adequate protection. So far I was riding in the temperatures from 50 till 80 and I don't have any issues with hands being cold or hot.

Great Glove
I purchased these to replace an early pair of SP-1s. I use them as my summer gloves. These new ones flow better than my old ones and I believe they fit better. I like the new palm pads and the pinky finger/ ring finger attachment. I hope these last as long as my last pair, which were good for the better part of a decade. Additionally, for a gauntlet glove they feel very light for the protection offered. Haven't tried out the protection quality and really don't want to either.

i wouldn't ride with anything less.
These gloves are awesome. I love the idea of the pinky bridge, and it doesn't get in the way at all. A minor complaint, that might resolve itself after being thoroughly broken in, is the interior seams on my right hand. My index and middle finger nails catch on the leather seams sometimes. I live in Southern California and have been using these gloves in 100+ weather. They are super comfortable, and I feel like if I did go down, my hands and wrists would be well protected.

Nice looking glove and hi vis option
So I bought the XL with the white/red/hi vis, after wearing a L in another brands tried on the A-Star XL in a bike shop here in Aus which fitted really well before I got these. These are slightly bigger than the local ones, I don't have as much feel in the fingers, maybe that's because of the thicker leather, but now I've done a couple 100 miles in them I find them ok. I really like the padding and protections everywhere, and the hi vis color on really stands out in the late afternoon sun on the commute home.

These are an exchange for the large size that I purchased. The large was too small.
Adam K on Sep 3, 2015
Chose it because I crashed in my old SP 2's, which, by the way, served their function flawlessly during a crash exceeding 80 miles per hour. I figured a little upgrade in protection wouldn't hurt.

Wanted a full gauntlet glove for that extra protection. Fit great soon as I tried them on...I have large hands so XXL was the perfect size for me. They are becoming a little more flexible as I wear them which I like.
BuryTheThrottle on Aug 12, 2014
Looking for a gauntlet. And ended up going with these bad boys over the dianese carbon st, because the extra palm cushion and the pinky bridge and the design was a little more appealing over the Carbons, I really liked the carbons for the big slider though, tough decision

Alpinestars anything will never disappoint you with features and functionality
Michael T on Jun 8, 2014
I wanted as much protection as possible for my hands, so having the extra wrist fastener, along with the bridge from the ring finger to little finger is a must have. Adding the carbon fiber knuckle guard and the fact that it is made of cowhide makes this a must try/have for me.

big fan of alpinestar. i have been using the older style gp pro plus. they lasted about 2.5 years i used crap out of them but they just wore out. this pair is cheaper but still has a good amount of protection.
Joshua J on Mar 28, 2014

Nathan P on Mar 22, 2014
The video review was very helpful and compared to the SP-2, this was a better value for a little bit more money.
Usha D on Mar 5, 2014
Bought these gloves in the white trim. The white trim is super sleek with nice red accents on the A* logo. I love these gloves. These gloves go well with the Alpinestars GP-R Leather Jacket in white trim. However, the cuff of the jacket is somewhat large compared to the gauntlet on the glove. I may buy the new alpine gloves that aren't a full gauntlet, yet still provide wrist protection. That would solve my jacket/gloves issue.

I'm a sportbike, all weather commuter...how well do these hold up in heavy rain and the colder months? Worth noting, I run heated grips. Cheers
Darren W on Apr 11, 2015
BEST ANSWER: These are comfortable for me into the mid 40s. After that they get a little chilly.
How are the gloves in the heat ? Does it cool/flow air enough? We're I live it get up 110+ hot weather.
A shopper on Mar 12, 2015
BEST ANSWER: Last summer I wore them in 110+ degree weather. When I was moving at highway speeds they were fine, just open up your hands occasionally to let additional air through.
When in slow moving traffic my hands were still sweating. But at 110+ my gloves were the least of my concern.
I measure large, but I wear SMX2's size XL and they fit great but not all leather. Stick with XL for these as well, or follow size chart?
A shopper on May 1, 2015
BEST ANSWER: I don't have experience with SMX2, so I can't provide any advice.
What I can say is that Revzilla will happily exchange if XL doesn't work.
