piece of mind investment I got these knee inserts for my Astars Axiom denim. though I've only had them for summer riding they do tend to make riding in jeans even hotter. I don't mind the discomfort though because I'd rather sweat it out than risk losing some skin. For $30, it's definitely worth it. Live free and ride smarter! July 15, 2013
Comfortable Protection While, hurray!, I haven't tested the protection this armor provides, it is more comfortable than another brand I had been using; they were stiff. I haven't used the Alpinestars long enough to judge durability. Knee and elbow pads especially have to be flexible for comfort, and to encourage their use. The other key feature is placement. Some clothing doesn't position the pads where they belong and allows them to move around. The Alpinestars pants keep the knee pads where they should be for maximum protection.. August 6, 2012

Rick P: These knee protectors are 14 in.(L) X 8 in.(W). I own a pair of Sartso jeans, I can tell you they are too big, but you can cut them easily (probably voids the warranty). I like this armor a lot because it is very soft, CE certified and there is good coverage. Sartso knee armor pockets are small. I would suggest going to a seamstress and have a bigger pocket put in the jeans. I have had that done (with other pants)and I was happy with the results. It allows you to keep the original size of the armor for better coverage. Just make sure you align the knees correctly. I like this better than the D3O knee armor (9" x 6") because of the better coverage. I have not gone down with this armor to test it, but I have gone down with just temper foam in the knees (what used to come stock in pants) at 20 mph and I was OK. Probably just luck, but this armor is much sturdier. Good luck. Mar 11, 2014

Jose Antonio C: Thank you for your answer Kelley, in fact the question was more like... will these be too small for my knee pockets? Mar 7, 2014
Kelley E: You can simply cut these down. I did so for a snug and custom fit. Mar 6, 2014

A shopper asked: Can I use this as a hip protection using the hip pockets inside Alpinestars pants? Dec 2, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: No, the Alpinestars Smart Guard Knee Protection Kit are designed for Alpinestars knee pockets only, and will not fit properly inside hip pockets. You could use the SAS-TEC Replacement Hip Armor, which you can trim to fit inside different pocket sizes and shapes. Please note that while trimming the armor will not compromise the integrity of the armor, it will void the manufacturer's warranty. Dec 3, 2012

A shopper asked: When installed as knee protectors in pants, which side should be facing out? The tan or the black? Oct 3, 2012
Answer this · Send to friends Good question? Yes (0) No (0)
RevZilla: The color of the armor that faces outward is not as important as the ergonomic shape. If you were to draw a line down the center of the pad, you want the wider half on the lateral side of the knee as that would make first contact. Oct 4, 2012
