Akrapovic Racing Exhaust System Yamaha FZ09 /  FJ09

Akrapovic is proud to introduce a stunning Racing Line exhaust for the Yamaha FZ-09. The FZ-09 is a bike with a strong focus on riding emotion and represents a new direction in sport-bike evolution. A bike designed to give homage to the darker and unconventional side of Japanese society can now be made even more mean, moody and exciting with the addition of Akrapovic's offering.

The Akrapovic Racing Titanium system is constructed from high quality stainless steel with a titanium alloy outer sleeve on the muffler body. A  ‘slash-cut’ outlet section has been designed to retain the narrow lines of the FZ-09 and has a removable baffle plate, which features three stylish exit ports. Peak power gain of 5.4HP at 9900 rpm and peak torque of 3.9lb-ft at 5000 rpm. Increased power-to-weight ratio with weight reduction of 5.3 lb compared to stock exhaust.

The Akrapovic Racing Carbon Fiber system, with its striking carbon fiber outer-sleeve and stainless steel headers, suits the naked design of the Yamaha bike and this exhaust will certainly bring the best out of the high-torque 3-cylinder engine that beats inside the heart of the Yamaha. Producing an extra 4.7lb-ft of torque at 5,150 rpms and increased power output of 6.8HP, the Racing Line (Carbon) will produce powerful and thrilling performance in everyday conditions, as well as help to improve the overall experience of the machine thanks to a weight saving 8.4lb from the original system!

The Akrapovic Racing Line has been designed specifically for demanding riders and represents an ideal balance between price and performance. The exhaust systems are dramatically lighter compared to stock exhaust systems and feature exceptional production quality and increased engine performance combined with pure racing sound output. The headers and mid-pipes are constructed of high-quality stainless steel conical tubes with precision handcrafting. A special process known as hydroforming is used in the manufacturing of the exhaust pipes. This process injects pressurized water into each tube to form the ideal shape for optimum exhaust flow without causing creases or compromising the strength of the steel.

Akrapovic Exhaust’s unique design enables them to obtain the maximum output for each specific model of motorcycle, while significantly reducing overall weight. It’s not just about peak power - Akrapovic exhaust systems deliver increased performance throughout the entire RPM range. Increased power and torque result in a much smoother ride. All Akrapovic exhaust system measurements are formulated on in-house computer-controlled flow benches.

The Racing Line is identical to Akrapovic’s top range Evolution Line exhaust systems, with the major difference being the material that is used for the headers and mid-pipes. The headers and mid-pipes of the Evolution Line are constructed exclusively of titanium while the Racing Line uses stainless steel.

Features:

  • High quality stainless steel headers and mid-pipes
  • No fuel remapping required, but for optimal performance RevZilla recommends use of a fuel controller
  • A combination of beautiful machine and hand welds
  • CNC machined muffler inlet cap
  • Optimized to maximize lean angle
  • All carbon fiber parts are produced in-house
  • Air-tight quality controlled production means your exhaust will be perfect
  • High-quality, silicon-shielded stainless steel exhaust springs

Best Suited for the FZ-09
With the FZ-09's not having too much to choose from as far as full system exhaust, I've decided to go and stay within the Akrapovic family. I had the Conical Titanium exhaust for my R6 and I was very satisfied with performance and sound. Between the carbon and titanium I went with the titanium just because I wanted something similar to the "stock" look and I love how the canister is tucked under the bike and the tip is angled to go with the shape and lines of the bike. I'm not to much of the long/big canister look. Overall this exhaust is perfect, it sounds and looks great. installation was very easy, literally took me 30-45mins max. It helped that i didn't need to take off any extra fairings. This system provides everything you need as far as perfect easy to do instructions, all hardware and springs, including loctite for the bolts to the mounting bracket and anti-seize for all necessary hardware.
If anyone was wondering about sound, YouTube or any other videos (including Revzilla's) doesn't do justice. The Titanium is very deep toned with the DB Killer in and without the DB killer its even more deeper and loud. its not like a 600 screaming load, its more like a luxury nice sounding loud. I love it!
I've uploaded pictures for some angle shots including of the pipe. hope it helps you future buyers. When the pipe is broken in and heated up it has that nice bronze/purpleish blue to it.. Just take the time to clean and wipe the pipes after the installation with degreaser so fingerprints or other grease/oil won't permanently bake onto the pipe :)

Pricey, but worth it.
If you're thinking about buying this exhaust, you probably fall into one of two categories.

1. You're really into squeezing all the performance you can out of the phenomenal 3-cylinder engine.

2. You want your bike to sound like an angry jungle cat growling before the kill.

Either way, you're going to get what you're looking for. I'll admit that I was hesitant to spend so much on aftermarket parts, but I'm sure as heck glad I did. The bike sounds incredible and there is definitely some noticeable performance gain in the higher-rev range (5k-7k), especially in 'A' mode.

The high quality of the carbon fiber and of the titanium headers is evident, and looks great poking out of the side of the bike once installed.

My ONLY issue with the whole installation was the instructions provided. I'm a pretty handy guy, but when you're trying to be gentle and not screw up your bike, a little more in the instructions department would have been very helpful. Specifically, finding the brackets and bolts to loosen vs those you need to remove was a little tricky, but all in all, it wasn't THAT hard: took me about an 2 hours (had to find metric socket set)

Long story short, if you have the money and you're thinking about this product versus another product, get this one. You will not regret it.

Best Exhaust for the FZ, and an EXCELLENT price.
Akra did a fantastic job with their carbon pipe for the FZ-09. My first priority in choosing an exhaust was day to day performance. I wanted to improve both mid range and sound while keeping the dB in an appropriate range.
When I saw the great price Revzilla had the full exhaust listed for I made the purchase. Amazingly two days later it was at the house with standard shipping.
Directions included were easy to follow, and in less than 20 minutes the FZ lost 10 pounds and picked up even more of the glorious low and mid range the triple is known for, and where it really counts. A deeper sound greets you with every twist of the throttle, and avoids the obnoxious note often found with other cans.
Akrapovic designed the pipe with Yamaha to not require an aftermarket tuner, and with the O2 sensor installed it runs flawlessly.

Buy with confidence and enjoy the music.

Happy customer (titanium)
Start off by saying that Revzilla was willing to price match a deal I found online for this exhaust. Much appreciated.

I got the full titanium exhaust and absolutely love the looks. I liked the styling of the stock, and this exhaust does the same thing except much better. Really cleans up the underside of the bike.

Super easy to install. I'm no mechanic and was able to put it together in a little over an hour.

Performance seems good. With baffle in, the exhaust seems to work well with the stock fueling/mapping. Very few backfires/ decel pops. Bike does seem to wheelie even easier (suggesting there is a power difference)

Sound is perfect. I don't like crazy loud bikes. With the baffle in, it's perfect for me. Adds a deep tone when you start up the bike. In low Rpms the bike gets a much "deeper" sound and is quite a bit louder. When you get on the gas, the sound slowly changes back into that awesome triple scream, but doesn't seem much louder at high Rpms. Overall, my bike gets a lot more looks at it passes, and they are looks of admiration, not annoyance. With baffle out, this bike will cause you to lose hearing in 5 years. So there's that.

Best upgrade choice for FZ-09 performance!
Lost 10lbs, gained 10bhp! Bike revs much smoother and breathes like a thoroughbred race horse! FZ-09 loves this exhaust and with the db killer in has very little popping except on downshift at speed. I will send my ECU to get flashed with Ivan's Performance and get the BCM air filter soon, then I'll pull out the db killer.
This is IMO the best bang for the buck upgrade that effects performance you can do to this awesome machine!
Install was fairly easy with the help of a friend and simple metric tools.

Holy Loudballs!
This exhaust is amazing. I couldn't hear my own bike when I was riding with the stock exhaust. I watched a lot of youtube videos before buying and thought I had a good idea of what it would sound like. So I installed it(very easy install) and started the bike up for the first time and was blown away when I FELT the sound from the exhaust. I love it. There aren't microphones or cameras that can pick up or produce this sound. If you are weary of it being too loud I would recommend trying to find a bike with this exhaust installed and hear it in person before buying. Although if loud is what you are going for then have no worries; get this exhaust and take the baffle out.

I got the Titanium and left the baffle in so I don't have to get a Power Commander. It is awesome. Not too loud, but a nice rumble that is pleasant to both the rider and my neighbors.

Best exhaust for the FZ-09!
Forget all the other systems for the Fz-09, this is the only one designed with the bike in mind. All the other systems use their proprietary generic muffler attached to new piping, leaving the exhaust protruding from the side, unlike the titanium Akra and stock exhaust.

Installation was easy and straightforward. Included instructions are very clear.

If you plan on removing the silencer, do it before installing the muffler. Remove the set screw, then use a long pipe to tap it out from the inside.

Overall Amazing In Every Way
I Put this exhaust on my bike and absolutely fell in love with it. Just unpacking the exhaust from the box was a relief because of the care that goes into shipping it. The carbon fiber looks beautiful and the metal is very well cleaned as well as welds all looking superb.

Installing it was a dream, the instructions are by far the easiest I have seen, sliding it all together was no task and it fits PERFECT.

Sound is pristine with a great bass tone, rumble and complimenting the triple cylinder well. The back fire is also pretty sexy too. This was installed on my Blazing Orange FZ-09 and took about an hour to install.

I did not want a system requiring fuel mapping. According to Akrapocic, this unit for my FZ09 does not require re-mapping. We shall see! I wanted more aggressive sound, not better performance. The FZ09 does not need any help with performance.

Since the Akrapovic titanium has a catalytic converter does fuel system need to be remapped ?
A shopper on May 31, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The catalytic convertor is an add on to the titanium exhaust. With or without the CC you DO NOT need to do a remap or even need a power commander. The akropovic exhaust was made to work perfectly with stock map.
I browsed through the installation manual and saw that it requires copper grease for the lambda sensor, bolt sealant and etc. Does the items ships along with the all the items needed for the installation in the box?
A shopper on Nov 1, 2014
BEST ANSWER: all the things that you will need is included on the box. i just want to give you a heads up. if you are planning to remove the silencer you better be ready. it so F loud. i'm using a ear plugs coz it was to loud men.
is there a reason to get the titanium rather than the cheaper carbon?
Brett H on Jan 10, 2016
BEST ANSWER: If you have the fj-09 the titanium is the only one that will let you use the stand. Otherwise is just personal preference. I loved the look and sound of the titatium
I have a 2015 FJ-09. Do I understand the stock center stand can be kept only on the titanium version, but not the carbon fiber version? I do want to keep the stand.
Marc H on Jan 9, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have the 2015 FJ 09 and love it. I have the titanium version exhaust and fits perfectly while still using the center stand and doesn't interfere with oil changing either. just need to retorque header nuts several times which is normal. I can't answer your question since I don't have the CF version!
why does the carbon fiber exhaust have a loop in the pipe?
A shopper on Jun 11, 2016
BEST ANSWER: he large loop is to reduce restriction on airflow. alot of exhaust have a sharp bend. which isnt an issue at idle where the air velocity is fairly slow. but as the rpm increases the air will have greater lets say air inertia. and will crash on the outer wall (of the bend) of the exhaust. this will increase restriction as the rpm and exhaust velovity goes up. so to reduce this having a longer and more graceful bend it has much less detrimental effects on restriction. this is also because the tubing diameter (crossectional area) is fairly constant behind the collector and through the muffler. on the titanium muffler you notice it has no bend. thats due to the larger volume the ti muffler has so the restriction is balanced. hope that helps a bit. sorry for getting a bit too in detail
I don't care about the look. I just want the one that sounds better an louder for my Fj09. is it de Carbon or is it the titanium? Please. obviously I prefer to keep the stand, but I repeat, I want the louder and better sound thanks all of u.
A C on Jun 29, 2016
BEST ANSWER: The loudest option would be the titanium, with the db killer removed. It will be almost offensively loud.

The carbon is much throatier than stock, but nowhere near as loud and obnoxious as the titanium with the silencer removed.

If you keep the silencer in on the titanium exhaust it is a little louder than stock, but not as loud as the carbon.

So if you are going for all out loudness, get the titanium...and remove the decibel killer silencer from the tip. It is just one screw and you can pull it out.

Hope that helps!
Will carbon fiber system fit with center stand?
A shopper on Jun 15, 2016
BEST ANSWER: I have not tried it myself, but the consensus on the web in no it will not. You may be able to modify the stand to fit, but even Akrapovic states it doesn't work
Do you need a power commander with the carbon exhaust?
Drew K on Aug 20, 2015
BEST ANSWER: You should get the ECU flashed before you put on the exhaust
Why are the Dyno charts different? And specifically, why does the Titanium dyno chart have a big drop off @ ~3krpm compared to the Carbon chart which doesn't?
A shopper on Jul 14, 2014
BEST ANSWER: The Ti and Carbon exhausts from Akra are completely different designs, it is not just about the materials used. The Ti version is the closest to stock and has a larger and more muffled can. It is approved for street use in the EU and does not require fueling adjustments. On the other hand, the carbon one is deemed the "race" system and is tuned entirely for performance rather than being street legal.

If you want understated looks and slightly louder sound - go with the Ti version.

If you want added performance and wicked sound - go with the Carbon version.
I'm wondering if the dyno charts shown here for both systems are right from Akrapovic, and that the bikes were not remapped or any kind of fuel management system was added. Can anyone verify if that is true?
A shopper on Sep 2, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Can't say as I never dyno'ed mine. Butt dunk is inconclusive. I bough it to save a few lbs and get a better sound. With the insert in place it sounds PERFECT. Not to loud but more aggressive then stock.
