AGV K3 Helmet

The K-3 is near the top end of the AGV entry level range. GP-tech lines and Valentino Rossi replica helmet graphics make this the ideal helmet for young riders and fans of the racing world. The only full-face thermoplastic model in the agv range, the K-3 is the perfect choice for riders in search of a safe, high-quality helmet with attractive design at a modest price. The K-3 design is inspired by the latest AGV developments starting from the Stealth, S-4, and Ti-Tech and continuing with the Blade/Blade LX and GP-Tech that have so clearly and distinctive defined the company’s style. This makes the helmets immediately recognizable and distinguished from all the other proposals on the market. In the same way, the differences with the helmet that the K-3 has replaced are equally evident.

Features:

  • Fabrics: Dry-Lex with hygienic treatment
  • Inside padding: Removable and washable (excluding neckroll)
  • Number of shells: 1 shell size
  • Retention System: Double-D ring
  • Shell: Painted HIR-TH (high resistant thermoplastic) resin

Good product, and some lack
I was disappointed with this product, not for quality (it is very good), nor for shape or noise.

For my surprise, it has not place to install my Sena headset, cause there is no place to fit the speakers inside the helmet.

So, beware about this lack.

Awesome Helmet
Using the chart and my hatsize, I picked a small and its snug but I guarantee a medium would be too loose. Rather have it snug than loose. Finish appears top notch. Venting is cool on summer days.

Helmet is one of the lightest ones available on the market, which was my primary motivator in purchasing. Noticeably lighter than my old HJC helmet.

Biggest issue with these models is the outer shell only comes in one size. This means that the Small and XL helmets will look the same from the exterior, just having different amounts of foam on the inside. This causes someone who wears a small, like myself, to appear to have a larger helmet on than normal.

Great helmet for under $200
Had this helmet since 2011, I used it regularly for 4 years before upgrading to Shark Explore-R Carbon Helmet. I still use it for short trips as it fits better than newer Shark.

It fits very snug, very comfortable. Compared to Shark Size runs a bit small. Noise is a bit high compared to Shark Explore-R.

Great starting helmet.
So I just learned to ride and I looked into this as my starter helmet. I love it! I bought it in white and all my friends recognize it's me. (I'm the only rider with a white helmet in my area). So it's a great Hi-Viz alternative if you ask me. For sizing I contacted customer service and I am just BLOWN by how awesome they are. Seriously, I found the helmet cheaper on a store near my place and I still chose to buy here because that's how awesome they are. I have good visibility, the noise is manageable, and I have used it through summer and it had great airflow.

best bang for the buck entry level sport helmet
I rated this helmet based on my previous ownership of: Shoei RF1000, Shoei RF1100, ICON Alliance, and ICON Domain.

For $170, AGV K3 is probably one of the better helmets you can get at an entry level price. The vision is excellent for street riding and its fairly quiet considering its price range. I do have an aftermarket slip-on exhaust (GSXR600) so ear plugs are a necessity on the highway. I can imagine those running stock exhaust set-ups will not need ear plugs. The helmet fit is true to size but somewhat slightly more smaller fit than my ICON Domain and Alliance helmet. Whoever said the visor flips up when looking at your blind spot on the freeway is correct. It flipped up once on me when I was merging onto the highway which started me a bit. That's the only complaint I have about this helmet but considering its entry level, it's not a deal breaker. The peripheral vision is good at a full tuck on a sportbike, unlike my ICON Alliance. But that could be more due to the shape. I find that the K3 is slightly more narrow than my ICON helmets (which tend to run slightly larger than normal and more round-like). On a side note, the ear pockets can be a little tight at first but after few rides, they will break in nicely. If your head shape is more round than narrow, make sure to test fit the AGV K3 before committing to buy! 4.5/5 stars from me.

Italian style
I have the Rossi Celebr8 version but they're all the same inside.

I love this helmet. It is my 3rd full face helmet and the most comfortable by far. Obviously helmet fit and comfort are subjective but I can vouch for a feel of quality when wearing it. The field of vision is good for a full face and the vents work amazingly. I have to close them in the morning! Like other reviewers my cheek pads were pretty tight when I first bought it but have broken in nicely without losing their strength/support. The helmet is not the lightest on the market but doesn't feel heavy on my head.

The only con I have is they're not pinlock ready so can experience the same fogging issues as any full face helmet. It did seem a bit loud on the mountains when I was commuting around Lake Tahoe but not nearly as bad on normal city freeways.

Love the Helmet
I love the look of the helmet as well as the fit. I already recommended it to a friend. The only gripe I have with it which it seems to be my problem only is the tightness on my ears. My friend put it on and he didn't feel anything. I guess it just needs to adjust to my head.

AWESOME helmet...and can't beat the price
The standard cheek pads are a little on the slender side, but the K3 is an amazing helmet for the price. Road noise isn't bad, and the lightness floored me. I've only been riding with it for a few weeks now, but it is a step up in my opinion from my Icon Airmada (wanted a night a day helmet so I didn't have to switch visors). Overall, great helmet and you can't beat RevZilla's customer service.

After doing some homework and being agitated with my year old Bilt Raptor helmet and the loud noise it allows in the helmet, I decided to buy the AGV helmet due to how quiet it claims to be according to the reviews. I also like the sleek design and the all black looks with the hint of red on the side to accent it. Hoping it helps a lot during my frequent trips on the highway.
André A on Mar 27, 2016
Helmet for the wifey. Only brand that fits her head and a good starter helmet for her.
brumms013 on Feb 2, 2016
Fantastic quality. I have finally found the helmet that fits my noggin. If your head is slightly oblong ( like most people), this helmet is a great choice. It is quite light, and outside noise is minimal - the shape of the padding inside also allows me to wear my regular eyeglasses comfortably with no pinch points whatsoever.

I picked the K-3 for its price and features, like the low weight and replaceable interior padding. I'll have to wait and see how the fit is.

Revzilla has great selection and prices! They're knowledgeable about their products so you can get the lowdown on what you're purchasing almost as well as if you'd visited a local store...and the free shipping and return policy just make it that much better! Awesome!

(thanks to the guy at Rockwell on the Ducati who turned me on to this!)

Does this helmet carry the ECE 2205 certification or is it only DOT-approved?
Chad P on Jan 11, 2014

Hi,

can glasses be worn comfortably with this helmet?

Thanks
A shopper on Jul 7, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Yes, I have glasses for driving and the helmet had slots for glasses. The slots are slightly high for me but not an issue at all.
Hi
Is the white color of this helmet glossy or matte? Also how quite would you rate this helmet, especially in terms of whistling?
Thank you…
Faisal A. on Jul 22, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Glossy. No major complaints with this helmet. It's done me solid and I wear it most days out of the year rain or shine. Noise is great, but my bike is very quiet so I guess it depends how much noise you're generating. Only thing is the chin guard thingy always slips out. I'm pretty sure you could just take that out though.
I bought a cruiser helmet that is an AGV and it came with two visors a black an a clear. will I get two also with this helmet?
A shopper on Nov 5, 2011
BEST ANSWER: Nope. The Domain 2 shipped with only a Clear visor (at least for me). Look for Icon's Proshield product line in order to get a different visor color. I ordered a Reflective Gold to go along with my Red helmet and couldn't be happier with the decision.

As reviews have pointed out, one of the only weaknesses of this Icon helmet line is the somewhat tricky shield-changing process. I have faith that this is because the Proshield is engineered first and foremost to stay on in the event of a crash (sorry to go off on tangent, but it seemed related to your question).
How good does this helmet do with blocking wind noise?
Miguel J on Mar 21, 2016
BEST ANSWER: Not very good from my experience. The chin of the helmet seems short so air creeps up under. It does provide more of a range of motion.
Does it includes the dark smoke shield? If not, please leave a link to get it!
Hamilton F on Feb 23, 2016
BEST ANSWER: It does not come with the smoked shield. Here's a link for all of your options.. It's a great helmet and I couldn't recommend it more. http://www.revzilla.com/motorcycle/agv-k3-k4-evo-face-shield
hi. i just ordered the icon alliance dark and felt it was a bit heavy for me. would a 3 lb 5 oz helmet make much of a difference to the 3lb 9 oz icon helmet i got? or will i adjust to the weight?

thanks in advance!
kristina g on Oct 6, 2014
BEST ANSWER: You will get used to the weight of the helmet regardless of its weight. I had icon helmet awhile ago and this agv is really lighter in weight when you carry is but once you wear it they all feel the same to me. I hope that helps
Hey Guys, is this helmet suitable for a upright riding position? I mean, it looks really cool but I'm afraid that the helmet might be noisy at that position.

Cheers!
André H on Apr 30, 2014
BEST ANSWER: Hi I purchased the agv k3 2 years ago to wear riding my supermoto bike which most of the time ur in the upright position and I never had any problems with noise!! I still wear this helmet to his day on my gsxr 1000 and I right up right a lot cruising around and there's no noise on that either!! Good helmet for the money!
HI GUYS.. I AM LOOKING FOR A GOOD HELMET TO USE WITH MY R1200GS ADV, I AM 6.5", I WANT GOOD VENTILATION ONE ... (I LIVE IN MIAMI), ALSO I AM LOOKING FOR A PRETTY QUIET HELMET TOO... THE BUFFING AT THE TOP OF THE HELMET IS A KNID OF ANNOYING WITH THIS BIKE (I HAVE THE TOURATECH SPOILER...), I TRIED THE AGV GP-TECH AT A LOCAL STORE... I LIKE A LOT THE MATERIAL AND THE FIT, BUT I AM NOT PRETTY SURE IF IT WILL WORK WITH UP-RIDE POSITION OF THE GS...THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!!
A shopper on Oct 10, 2011
BEST ANSWER: You are quite right. Most sport helmets are designed for maximum ventilation during an aggressive riding position on a sport bike, especially the higher end models like the AGV T-2 and GP-Tech, Bell Star, and Shoei X11 and X12. I love my T-2 and GP-Tech. However, when I sit up out of a tuck, I do notice a drastic change in air flow at the same speeds. I would highly suggest getting a helmet designed for a sport touring bike that is setup to vent during an upright riding position.
As for noise levels, the T-2 and GP-Tech are somewhat quiet, more so than most sport bike helmets of the same caliber. In comparison with the Bell star it is definitely the quieter lid. However, the Star wins out in the airflow category.
If you really want to stick with a sport bike helmet I would highly suggest either the AGV T-2, AGV GP-Tech, or the Bell Star. All of these will have phenomenal air flow and protection capabilities, Not to mention, they are extraordinarily light; my GP-Tech is under 3 lbs.
