AGV GP-Tech Marco Simoncelli Tribute Limited Edition Helmet
GP-Tech, the top of the AGV helmet line, was conceived, designed, and developed with the one precise objective of being the benchmark for helmets primarily destined to racing use. Made on the basis of the best of AGV racing experience, the GP-Tech combines safety, ventilation, and perfect comfort with an extremely innovative and aerodynamic design. GP-Tech’s design is the most innovative in the market today, and its assertively modern lines clearly distinguish it from its competitors. Aesthetics is not merely an end in itself, however: the slender and streamlined chin guard, the lines at the sides, the top air vents and the back tail all make the helmet extremely aerodynamic, ensure excellent ventilation, and guarantee perfect safety performance in case of impact. RIP Marco.

AGV GP Tech Marco Simoncelli Tribute LE Helmet
A tribute done right...
I was researching helmets for about two weeks. I went to every local motorcycle shop and tried the agv gp tech, shoei rf 1100, the hjc rafa, arai corsair V, rxq, and signet q. I studied every word of review that came from my most trusted source for real rider experience, Revzilla. Thanks Revzilla for helping me make a confident decision. I think I have a predominately round head (not exactly Charlie Brown round) with a little bit of oval. I used the size I was wearing in HJC (large) and of course listened to what the Revzilla team suggested.
Comfort and weight? I was holding out for the latest greatest carbon fiber super technical helmet from agv but I'm not on the track (yet!), and couldn't justify the cost. Plus I was really jonessing to get out of my lower end helmet (hjc cl-16). To me the agv gp tech was the lightest, but when you get up to this level of purchase its hard to tell a big difference in weight. The hjc rafa was super comfy but it felt big and round on my head like an astronaut. I personally dont prefer sugar scoop style chin vents which also eliminated the shoeis and arais. The arai was a bit more comfortable than the agv but not enough for me to have that sugar scoop vent. Otherwise the agv was like having my head wrapped with the softest stuffed animals ever made...i really dont know how else to describe it...very comfortable. when i purchased this helmet about three months ago, i weighed 220lbs now i weigh 185 and the helmet is a smidgen big. Im going to get some bulkier cheek pads thinking that will help. I ride everyday for fun for at least two hours and have had no issues with pressure points or "hot spots".
Ventilation? This is a race style helmet. the vents on the top work best in full and 3/4 tuck but if you are upright or 1/2 you just tilt your head a few degrees and your head can feel the rush of air. the chin vent works perfect. I get very limited to no fogging when sitting at a stop light with the visor down. The agv gp tech neck line is high, which i like, because the airflows around and back down the back of the helmet and that keeps my neck cool. I also like the high neck line because i don't bump my helmet against my shoulder armor as much when head checking.
Style? "WOW!! Nice Helmet!!" get used to that. inside and out this helmet is the coolest cleanest looking graphic helmet on the planet. Thats how much I like it! Its a conversation starter for sure, especially when you run into race fans who know of Marco and how awesome of a guy he was and how much he will truly be missed. Marco was a class act. Because he was such a class act I enjoy rocking his tribute helmet. Im just glad the LE came out when I made my decision to get the AGV GP Tech because quite honestly I didn't like any of the other graphic or color options they had...but that's my narcissism talking again.
Technical stuff? I have no idea because this is my first high end helmet. But the material is soft and durable. To me the helmet is very quite. Once I hit 80mph and in an upright position the wind is loud but find me a helmet that wont be at 80 mph in an upright position. The field of vision is incredible. The vents and vent triggers are solid, positive, and easy to use. I attached the Sena smh10r to my Marco helmet. I hid the battery inside the back of the helmet so you can only see the control unit. I did a review on the Sena SMH10r and you can check out photos there. But the speakers fit perfectly and I cant feel them against me ear at all. I used the wire mic (not the boom mic) and i don't even notice its there. in fact i don't notice the Sena at all unless music is playing or i need to take an important phone call rollin 160mph. ;)
overall? for the price its a great deal. you feel totally protected by this helmet and you look cool to boot. you'll luv it! I didn't give it 5 stars because i would like to see a racer style helmet with road warrior venting but without loosing the aesthetic appeal of the racer style. once someone can do that...5 stars baby!

A s:I'm not sure if they use shield. I can say the optical clarity is one of the best features of this helmet. Better than my Arai or any other of the many helmets I have owned. The venting is also a high point. I hope this helps.Oct 17, 2013
