AGV Diesel Mowie Helmet

The Italian jeans company Diesel has teamed up with Italian helmet manufacturer AGV to produce a line of designer helmets. Diesel takes the helmet company in a different direction to their typical racing fare. 

The Diesel Mowie helmet presents very polished details: Fabric and leather made in Italy, the mythical "Diesel Mohawk", shiny chrome logo on the back, and padded ergonomic neck protection. The clear curved faceshield is made out of anti-scratch polycarbonate and is also available in smoked, yellow, orange and green.

great helmet I've been wearing my Mowie helmet for about three weeks now, and haven't experienced any of the negative issues other reviewers mention. There is a seal along the top of the face shield when it is down and so I have no wind noise at all for city driving. That same seal creates a 2mm gap between the visor and the helmet when the shield is up, so it never touches the helmet nor scratches the paint. I dropped my helmet on the cement my second week and was expecting a mess. I'm not sure where the helmet impacted the ground, but there wasn't a scratch on any of it. The quick release strap is worth its weight in gold. I have a fairly narrow head, and the helmet fits great...haven't experienced any discomfort around the ears. I can actually wear earrings, which is great for me. I haven't tried swapping out the face shield for a different color so can't speak to the difficulty of that. I am used to using an open faced helmet, so the half visor makes a huge difference with wind, and I don't have to wear sunglasses. The only thing I've noticed is a bit of wind noise if I leave the visor up, which may be a slight annoyance if I swap out for the tinted shield. All in all, a stylish, comfortable, high quality commuter helmet in great colors for visibility. I didn't hesitate to buy another color as my spare. Great for the price, but visor does scratch paint. The style can't be beat, but quality is a little below what I expected from AGV; the visor scratches the paint quite easily during normal use and the 'hardware' on the sides where the visor attaches is only plastic. Also, swapping to a different visor is WAY more difficult than it should be. On the other hand, the shell and interior are both of excellent quality, and the quick release strap makes putting the helmet on and taking it off a breeze. Overall, it's an awesome deal at the closeout price, despite the issues above. I purchased some automotive paint protection film that I plan to install above the visor to prevent further paint scratches from the visor. April 24, 2013
Shield scratches The helmet looks good, but they should have a full visor that covers your whole face not just your eyes. The wind just blows right up into your eyes so you need to wear sunglasses. When the shield is open it scratches the helmet paint. I had mine for a day and then noticed. April 22, 2013
Not very comfortable, visor scratches paint! I live in Florida so when I saw this go on closeout I thought it would be a great helmet for commuting to work in the summer. As soon as I put it on I knew something was not right. It has no padding around the ears. Let me say that again, it's not a small amount of padding, it's NO padding! Your ears are against the hard inner shell and it's not very comfortable. I probably would have sent it back, but then noticed the visor has already scratched the paint where it flips up. I guess I'm stuck with it now. It's wearable, and I'll use it, but I'm not very happy with it. February 16, 2013
Great helmet! This helmet would probably fit a rounder head a little bit better, I have to push the helmet forward a bit for the visor to work correctly. All in all a great helmet. Can't beat the style. December 27, 2012

Answer: 
The AGV Diesel Mowie Helmet is DOT approved, as are all of the helmets available through RevZilla.com. That being said, AGV does not offer a full faced shield for the Mowie. The HJC CL-33 Open Face Helmet or the Arai XC RAM Helmet are two examples of 3/4 or open-faced helmets that do offer a full face shield.

Answer: 
We suppose you could, but our opinion is relative. Some people ride at those speeds with no helmet or eye protection whatsoever and have no complaints about wind related eye agitation. It really comes down to personal wind tolerance.
