AFX FX-39 Dual Sport Helmet
This helmet looks great, feels great, and visibility is awesome. It's kind of noisy upwards of 65 mph but completely tolerable for long stretches of highway. Heat and humidity in Miami haven't been an issue. My first street helmet so i have nothing to compare it to.

Great DS Helmet
Using the fit chart, my helmet was perfect. Oh, sure, it’s tight and about rips my ears off on removal. It goes on easy and once on, causes no pain. The visor is simple and well designed. The cheek pads are made for an emaciated refugee, not the pulchritudinous faces of us overfed Westerners. Following the advice of a previous reviewer, I clamped the removable cheek pieces between a pair of large books overnight and they were more manageable next day. Fogging is easy to achieve until out of the slipstream of a windshield. Low speed dirt riding suggests standing on the pegs, so the fogging is not an issue there. I applied a thick coat of Op Drops (which I use on the inside of safety glasses in competitive shooting sports) to the inside of the visor. Fogging (even in the rain) is now not a problem. The quick release strap works flawlessly. Noise at speed is about what I would expect from any helmet. These lids are well made and well designed. I’m very happy I bought it. I think I’ll order one for my best friend (my wife)………She claims she wants to ride 2-up.

Excellent helmet for the price you pay can't beat it, I have had schuberts, shoei etcc of course excellent helmets but if you are in a budget this is a great option, I bought the extra face mirror shield that attached to the transparent shield and it works great, took this helmet to Tierra del Fuego deom San Diego and NO COMPLAINTS

cheap and unavailiable electric shield
Nice helmet with 2 big drawbacks.
1. eye opening was too small for any of the goggles I tried with it, so not really much of a dual sport.
2. The electric shield didn't last. I went out after about a month last season. Before this season, I tried to order another one; none to be had. Just now after the lack of an electric visor cost me a weekend of riding (and several sticks to the face after the visor failed, since I have the visor open most of the time), I tried again; still none available.
Now I have to buy a new helmet because I can't get a replacement electric visor for this one.
I'll never buy another AFX.

this helmet picks up alot of air, but i hear music with my right ear phone blocking half the air intake and exhaust sound, so i dont notice the air sound at all. looks great one of the reasons i purchased this helmet along with mirror visor:)

Great starter helmet.
The AFX FX-39 is my first motorcycle helmet, so I don't have any experience with nicer helmets or other budget helmets. I own a dual sport (Suzuki DRZ-400S), and I've spent much of my 3 months of ridding on dirt. The gap between the windscreen and shell is well sealed and keeps dust out of it quite well. However, I haven't really seen how it holds up to being roosted. The paint on the helmet hasn't held up amazingly, it's been scratched in a few places revealing shiny paint below the matte black finish. I don't mind this personally and I haven't been very kind to the helmet either. That being said, other than that overall the helmet has held up quite well. One con of the helmet that I would note is that the helmet is very loud at high speeds. Once again I haven't used a helmet that claimed to excel at this so I have no way of comparing it to anything. Maintenance wise, taking the pads out and the windscreen and visor off is pretty straight forward. I'd definitely recommend this helmet to anyone who planes to do dirt riding and short trips on the road. I'd say that if a rider was planning to regularly hit speeds higher than 50-60 mph for more than an hour or two, they should look somewhere else. That is assuming that touring helmets truly make a big difference in wind noise reduction.
