AFX FX-140 Modular Helmet
Highest Quality, Lightweight, Quiet and Nice Features
This is my first modular helmet in 15 years. My last one was heavy, bulky and noisy. I was surprised at how light and quiet the AFX FX140 helmet is. This is a very high quality helmet. Makes me wonder why people spend $500 + for a Shoei or Arai. I guess they don't know about the law of diminishing returns or are status needy, because this helmet provides the same protection and offers great features at a fraction of the cost.
I love the ability to flip up the chin bar while stopped at a light, or a quick trip to the store. Very important here in Phoenix. Also, for riding around town, I flip the chin bar 180 degrees, completely to the back on warm days. The built in, flip down, shaded visor is a bonus. Overall the fit is excellent, the helmet is very quiet and lightweight and the overall construction and attention to details is of the highest quality. Definitely recommended. Came quickly and well packaged from revzillia.

Excellent value helmet
This comes exactly as advertised. If you don't want to drop$500 plus on the big name brand, high end helmet ...this in the one. Yes it is louder than the expensive ones but it's not obscenely load. Good ventilation and I love the pilot sun visor. At this price point you can get new one every 12-18 months. Additionally, not that it's exclusive, but I love the HI VIZ. I'm convenienct it's make a huge impact on my visibility, especially in traffic.

Fantastic Winter helmet.. with a few quirks
This is a fantastic helmet overall. I love the design and it is very comfortable. The only thing I don't like is that the deployable sunshield never goes all the way up, it hangs a little in your vision and is annoying. The padding is good and comfortable however the skull padding and cheek padding don't seem to compare perfectly; the skull padding fits looser than the cheeks. The seal around your head and under your chin is very good and makes it quiet.
This is definitely a WINTER helmet; the strong seal and lowish airflow do not suit summer riding well but will keep you warm in the winter.
Other reviews comment on the quality being lesser but I have found that not to be the case. I will be buying another one of these when It needs replacing, I do wish it had a bit more airflow though. Seems very light for a modular helmet.
Looks fantastic with the silver mirror face shield.

Great price, comfortable, but poor quality control
As of writing this review, I have used this helmet for just over one month. My rides range from only 50 miles on days I work and upwards of 500 to 1000 miles on the weekends when I want a change of scenery.
The helmet has a great fit for me. Some reviewers recommend going the next size up, but the sizing chart was spot on in my case. The helmet was a tad snug at first, but within the week was broken in enough to be a near perfect fit. I guess it would depend on your specific head shape.
Airflow is definitely lacking. There have been more than a few occasions where I thought my vents were closed, only to discover they were indeed open. At speed airflow is acceptable, but in slow traffic on a hot day it's almost a requirement to open the visor or flip up the face shield itself to not feel like you're drowning in a pool of sweat or suffocating in a hot-box.
It's more quiet than my SS1500 or my HJC CL-17. Both of those helmets were like wearing a wind tunnel on my head even at street speed, but the Highway was an absolute nightmare leading to frustration and fatigue. A 500 mile trip to Sacramento had my ears ringing for a good three weeks. The FX-140 isn't super quiet, but I can ride around town without developing a headache. Noise at speed is still a problem, but I now wear (and recommend for others) earplugs whenever I'm going to be on the Highway for more than a few minutes. So that's a non-issue in my book. If you ride without plugs, don't expect the helmet to be quiet by any definition.
The modular face shield makes quick trips into stores or gas stations a breeze; gone for me are the days of having to remove my helmet just to put it back on a minute or two later. It also makes talking to others convenient by just flipping up the face shield and not having to yell through the helmet if the environment is loud (at red lights for example). This convenience alone makes the purchase worth it.
While a minor problem that I don't think would lead to any issues with the helmet's protective ability; quality control was unnerving in my experience. I'm not making a claim to their overall inspection process but to completely miss something like this, it does make me question their overall inspection process. My face shield wasn't seated properly, making the shield very difficult to open without spreading the cheeks with a hand while opening. Initially I thought maybe the screws holding the shield to the helmet itself were loose. After taking the vanity covers off of the side, I found the screws to be snug as I would expect, but the right side was still sticking out about a quarter of an inch, so I dug deeper only to find that the smaller right-side screw that pushes the visor away from the helmet was not only stripped (the head, not the thread), it wasn't even screwed in. The screw, small plastic arm, and the spring they hold in place fell into my lap immediately as I detached the visor. This is unacceptable in my book, but I was able to use a thin flat-head screwdriver to force the stripped screw into the brass nut enough to fix my issues until I have time to search out a higher grade screw to replace the stock screws. I have uploaded some photos showing what I am referring to. Pictures of the pieces falling out not included, for some reason I didn't think of taking a picture at that point.
Over all I'm still very pleased with this helmet. But annoyed at the face shield seating issue. At $115, you cannot beat the value.

This is the second time my wife and I bought this particular helmet. We like the wide range of vision and the modular function. The flip down visor is great and easy to get to. The only thing I think that could have been done a bit better is the airflow. I live in a hot climate and the airflow seems to be just a bit restricted, but it wasn't enough to keep me from buying the helmet for a second time. My first one lasted about three years before the interior started to become worn out. I would recommend this helmet to a friend.

Overall: Fits good. But- do buy the next size UP from what you would. Great air flow. Love the easily deployed inner " Fighter-Pilot" smoked shield. This unit is the orange/tangerine HiViz color. STANDS out for sure- just what I wanted. For the $$$$$ hard to beat!
