A motorcycle racing jacket needs to do a few specific things well. Those key "things" are what distinguish motorcycle racing jackets from regular motorcycle jackets. To support functionality for racing the jacket should be at least 1.2 millimeter cowhide leather for sliding abrasion protection. It should also have a 360 degree zipper (for pants connection) and the pre-shaping of the jacket should be more agrressive in its ability to support the rider's body in the tucked riding position. Typically the aggressive preshaping aids in the safety of the garment by not allowing a large range of motion. In a crash this keeps the limbs ina safer position. Typically when riding on the track riders will be wearing a stand-alone back protector as opposed to a back protector insert used within the jacket.
